Mahavishnu (Sree Krishna)
Visiting the temple will give a divine feeling of the Guruvayurappan Temple at Guruvayur. In Chalakunnathu temple, Vishnu’s appearance as a four armed form, holding padhma (Lotus), gadha, Sankha (conch shell) and Sudharsanachakra. The temple celebrates many Vaishnava festivals among which, Ashtami Rohini is very important. Ashtami Rohini falls on the month of Chingam on R
ohini Nakshatra and Ashtami thithi. After the Darshan all take part in the Prasadam oonu, on Kannan’s Birthday. In the evening,Sobhayathra started from different places around Kidangoor, and culminated at the Chalakunnathu temple. Numerous children dressed up as Lord Krishna and Gopikas, on the occasion of Ashtami Rohini, literally converted our village to Ambadi. The sobhayathras organised under the aegis of the Balagokulam were a visual treat to the ardent devotees of Lord Krishna. Floats which came to the temple, from different parts of the village, featured various epic characters in Lord Krishna’s life. Thursday is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Brihaspati, the guru of gods. This is also important at Chalakunnathu temple. Devotees listen to devotional songs, such as "Om Jai Jagadish Hare" dedicated to Lord Vishnu on this day. Palpayasam, Thirumadhuram and Ghee Lamp are the main offerings for Vishnu at this temple. Lord Mahavishnu is one of the deities in ‘Trimurthis’. The three functions of the world namely “Creation”, “Maintenance” and “Destruction” are being done by ‘Trimurthis’. Vishnu is known as the preserver in them. The name ‘VISHNU’ means the one who can enter anywhere, as we usually says ‘Sarvavyapi’. Vishnu take five forms such as Para form, Vyuha form, Vybhava form, Antharyami form and Arcavathara form. In the Arcavathara form only the devotees can worship the Lord directly. Prasada oottu (Anna-daanam)
There are arrangements for free feeding as Prasadam at the dining hall on every Malayalam month on Thiruvonam nakshatra. Devotees can offer Prasada Oottu or can remit the required fees and make arrangements for the same. Of all things related to charity, offering meals (Anna-daanam) is considered to be the noblest one. Through Anna-daanam, the giver and the receiver attain prosperity. Sree Dharmasaastha
The presiding deity of Chalakunnathu temple is Lord Ayyappa resides with wife Prabha and son Sathyaka. The temple is also known as “Sastham Kotta” This incarnation is consecrated at very few places in the world. All the three idols, Lord Dharmasaastha, Devi Prabha and Lord Sathyakan are installed on one Peedam (seat). Idols in this temple are also the rarest of rare ones. Lord Dharmasaastha depicted the Padmasana pose and his left hand is placed on the left knee and right hand holds Amrutha Kalasam, which signifies Abhista Varadayi meaning unlimited blessing will pour on the seeking devotees. Ayyappa is not a brahmachari. It is true that the famous Sabarimala Ayyappa being a brahmachari, it is a deep-rooted belief that Ayyappa is a bachelor. At the same time, in the three famous temples connected with Sabarimala viz. Aryankavu, Achankovil and Kulathoopuzha, Ayyappa is worshiped in different bhavas of child, married and aged respectively.Though the god is one and same, we worship Him in different names and as different deities as per moorthy bhava. We can see in so many temples even the same deity is worshipped in different forms at different times. In the same way, though the moorthy is one and same, sangalpa/bhava may defer from deity to deity. Neeranjanam is one of the most auspicious offering to lord Sani(Saturn). This is a main offering in chalakunnathu temple. Sasta or Ayyappan is associated with the planet Shani (Saturn). By pleasing the lord one can reduce the bad effects of Saturn called sanidosha. Offering Neerajanam to Lord Ayyappa on Saturdays is believed to be good for removing hardships owing to sanidosha. Jayanthi of loard Ayyappa is celebrated as “uthram maholsavam”(festival) in Chalakunnathu temple. It falls on Pournami or Full Moon day in Meena masam of Malayalam calendar. Ganapathi
The power of loard Ganesha in Chalakunnathu temple has no boundaries. Vinayaka is one of the famous and greatly worshipped deities in Hinduism. Vinayaka is also known as Ganesh, Vigneswara, Ganapathy, Pillaiyar . The main identity of Vinayaka is his elephant like head. Its known that Vinayaka is the eldest son of Lord Siva and Goddess Parvathy. We believe that if we pray to Ganapathy, then all the obstacles in front of us will remove quickly. Because of that Vinayaka is known as the Lord of obstacles and the God of new beginnings. Thus got the name ‘Vighneswara’, the one who removes ‘Vighna’ from our path. For all new beginnings, Hindus do ‘Ganapathy Homam’ properly in temples and even at homes. Mukkutti pushpanjali and Karuka Mala are the popular offerings in Chalakunnathu temple. Ganapati Homam is considered to be the most appropriate offering to satisfy Lord Ganesa.
