Waterford clergyman, Luke Wadding was the person responsible for establishing St. Patrick’s Day as a national feast day in the mid-17th century?

Although the day had been observed in Ireland from around the 10th century, it was Wadding, who held an influential position in Rome, who put the power of the Catholic Church behind the feast day.

Many congratulations to the Co. Waterford winners in the Irish Restaurant Awards Munster Regional Final last night (10 March), which celebrates the outstanding contributions of the food and hospitality industry across the province.👏

The awards ceremony was held at the Strand Hotel in Limerick, where county winners were announced.

Now in its 17th year, the Irish Restaurant Awards received thousands of public nominations, submitted through The Irish Times, the official media partner of the awards.

Anticipation now builds for the All-Ireland Awards Gala Dinner, where both regional and overall national winners are revealed.

The grand event is set to take place on Monday, May 18th, at the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin.

👉Best Café: Cass & Co. Dungarvan.
👉Best Casual Dining: Farmgate, Lismore.
👉Best Chef: Luis Martin, Mara Restaurant, Waterford City.
