We've got News: The 2018 Micheal Cawley Sligo 7s' date has been fixed for Saturday 21st July ... here's hoping the sun stays shining for us for a few more weeks 😉 Again a massive Thank YOU to everyone who has played a part in the smooth running of this annual sporting event that pays tribute to one of Sligo Ladies' Football's greatest friends and advocates. Once more we'd like to ask you, the footballers, managers, sideline supporters, pitch organisers, teams and of course our local legends the tea makers and bun bakers to come out in force to ensure this fundraiser continues to raise much needed funds for Croi. So all that's left to say is squads- get your sevens training in so we can let the Games begin!

EVENT UPDATE: Tuesday 12th June, 2018

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Micheál Cawley Sligo 7s has been postponed to a later date yet to be confirmed.

We would like to genuinely thank all those who have participated in and supported this annual blitz in memory of Micheal and in aid of Croí. We hope to see the ladies clubs out in force again this year to remember a community man in a day of sport and smiles, fouls and frees, energy and exhaustion 😁

On 23rd June we once again gather as a footballing community to remember a man who gave so many the sport we love. People like micheal who give so freely of their time and energy to facilitate the provision of sport are the heart of our communities. Their input touches the lives of so many be they the children who love the game, the aspiring teenage footballing talent or the adults who carry the game with them for their own lifetimes. Micheal ignited a passion for ladies football in the community of Castleconnor and played an integral role in the early stages of sligo LGFA. Please save the date (23rd June) and join us to celebrate the input of Micheal and, by extension, all those who give of their time to fuel our passion for sport. All proceeds go to Croi.

EVENT UPDATE:
Due to circunstances beyond our control, the Micheál Cawley Sligo 7s has been postponed to a later date.
The date has yet to be confirmed but we expect it will fall in August.
Going forward, we are very eager to ensure the continued success of Micheál 's memorial event. The smooth running of any longrunning event relies heavily on the willingness of a community to facilitate. Last year, a football community and the parish of Castleconnor rallied to produce a day that warmed the hearts of the Cawley family.
We would like to genuinely thank all those who participated and supported last year's inaugural blitz and we hope to see you out in force again this year to remember a community man in a day of sport and smiles, fouls and frees, energy and exhaustion!

A football community remembers its founder and the original advocate for ladies football in west Sligo, Micheál Cawley. The mini 7s event in aid of Croí is a fitting tribute to a man who, alongside the late Frank Kelly, brought ladies football to the parish of Castleconnor. His early efforts continue to reap reward in every success enjoyed by Eoghan Rua ladies club. The success of an event like this relies heavily on the good will and community spirit of those who give of their energy and time freely, qualities that one equates readily with the memory of Micheál. So if you are available on the 25th to support or lend a hand in anyway, please come out and enjoy a day of sport, sun* and shenanigans. (*sidenote- sun is not guaranteed 😉)
