On this very date next month we will have enjoyed the magnitude of the stages enjoyed by one and all on the Donegal MotorClub Harvest Stages rally, and more importantly we will have a clearer picture of who our 2026 champions will be and who has also the honour of finishing within the top three overall. When dropped scores are taken into account, Ben McIntyre and Anthony McDonald are in a strong position in their class13 Toyota Starlet. However, they do require a class win on the event to seal the deal! Chasing hard on their tails is Gareth Deazley and Oisin Joyce the class20 Mitsubishi Evo9 crew have really been consistent all year, and currently sitting third is the old faithful 'Pinto' class 12 Ford Es**rt of Danny O'Donnell, whilst 3rd overall co-driver is Mark McGeehan who has work hard with several seats in class 2 to secure his position, he does only head Danny's co-driver Cathair Hughes by one solitary point.

But these are all subject to change as soon many crews are hungrily waiting in the wings to pounce and we could possibly have a complete surprise winner some Saturday 10th October evening

Justin Smyth and Ciaran MvGorman joint with Barry McLaughlin and Barry McBride are all sitting on 37-points and we could lament and calculate every possible scenario for many of the other crew within the top 20 but a few steady hands can't be discounted either Oran England and Darragh Mullen, Aaron McIntyre and Darren O'Brien and Darren McGuinness and Derek Molloy are just a few names who could very well be surprised nominees for the overall positions, but its all in their hands and has to be battled hard for to achieve their top scores.

All we know is it truly is going to be one of the most anticipated finishes to our Championship for a few seasons, and all before we even get into the mouthwatering and scintillating class battles equally as intensely fought and as much pride and honour of succeeding as the overall awards, as a clubman based series we pride ourselves in highlighting the backbone of rallying and giving them the recognition they deserve. The championship itself is achievable by having the rounds well spread out over the year and geographically accessible for the majority of the crews. We will take a real, in-depth look at the class battles over the coming days and weeks in the lead up to the final round.

Finally just a gentle reminder to avail of the special offer in the to celebrate the championship so well supported by Sligo Pallets Ltd, Andrew and his team go above and beyond expectations to create one exceptional awards evening. No stone is left unturned, and we as a championship are truly thankful for the level of support. So mark the diary for Saturday 31st October it truly is a night not to be missed. Win loose or draw!

So it's all down to you all now to get those entries in and go and create some history and win the 2026 see you all in the hills

Sundays Galway Motor Club Summer Stages Rally round 5 of the 2026 the event proved to be a great success, a demanding event with real drivers stages and culmination of tight technical sections and fabulous fast and flowing tests really made for a top event for the majority, hard luck to those who faltered.

One such crew who rarely falters is Josh Moffett and Keith Moriarty their Toyota Yaris Rally2 stopped the clocks 6.7 seconds further up the road than early event leaders Kevin Eves and Chris Melly, their Skoda Rally2 was in fine form and they are now real contenders forna rally win going forward, Keelan Grogan and Ayrton Sherlock secured a fine third overall in their Ford Fiesta Rally2. Quinn had a disastrous start to the event getting beached on the opening stage which could have tough consequences on his season.

In the modified category Aaron McIntyre and Darren O'Brien claimed the win the Toyota Starlet crew seem to be really on form of late, Daniel McKenna and Andrew Greenan took their Ford Es**rt to a fine runners up spot, and phenomenally not to be out done by his brother Ben McIntyre and Anthony McDonald took 3rd 2wd and winners of class13, the result catapulted them into the overall lead of the Sligo Pallets Ltd Border Championship, *(dropped scores apllied)

With the final round set to occur on Saturday 10th October at the Donegal MotorClub Harvest Rally many of the classes are really only to be settled with strong results could have a few more shakeups.

In rally4 the battle was also intense Ben McFall and Mark McGeehan were victorious on this occasion, their Ford Fiesta rally4 finished 6.2 seconds ahead of the Peugeot 208 variant of Oran England and Darragh Mullen woth the similar mount of Danny Brady and Damien Sheridan coming home a mere 4.6 seconds further adrift, it really shows the intensity and close racing between them all.

In the 2a class James McShea and Liam Callaghan had a strong result winning the class by over a minute and a half, Oisin McShane and Niall Myers had been their nearest challengers until unfortunately they went off on ss4 Kaelin and Molly Foley in their Similar 208 finished runners up.

In the historic category Noel and Sean Og Doyne won the category in their Bda Es**rt over the BMW of Michael Cullen and Lorcan Moore, with Vincent and Jane Collins in 3rd in their Es**rt.

In the Junior class, the battle of the Honda Civics Patrick Doherty and Patrick Durning took the win by over 19 seconds, 2nd went to Shane Maguire and Reece Kenny and 3rd was Kyle and Patrick McHugh in their example.

The rally has to be a credit to Gary Leonard and all the team at Galway Motor Club, in terms of the the tables have literally been turned on their head again, this season has been exceptionally exciting as their hasn't been a run away leader or half predicted champion, and with the final round on the 10th October on the Donegal MotorClub Harvest Stages so much is on the line for many crews and it really will be winner takes all, currently as we take in dropped scores, Ben McIntyre and Anthony McDonald currently heading the series, Gareth Deazley and Oisin Joyce hold second one point adrift and Danny O'Donnell is third his navigator Catherine's 4th but only 1 point shy of Mark McGeehan who hold third Navigator, but there are so many who If they get a class win in donegal could sway right into the main picture. And as for the classes I think its going to take possibly from now until our Championship awards date of the 31st October to figure who has won what, we will give a good synopsis over the next couple of weeks to keep the interest up.

Don't forget to avail of the special room rate for the Sligo Park Hotel for the night of the awards, win loose or draw its a night not to be missed, and we all night a glad rags night out every now and again

Well done to all the award winners and again, congratulations to Gary and the club on a great event

As the countdown continues to Sundays Galway Motor Club Summer Stages Rally we look back at our Sligo Pallets BorderRally Championship 'Drive of the Day' at the Monaghan Motor Club Stages Adrian Rankin and Conal McNulty had a fabulous time on ss6 to lift the coveted award, it was a nice bonus to getting 2nd in the 11r class for the day in total and a further boost to the championship campaign. Adrian is no stranger to success, despite his outings being limited and very much sporadic, the pace has always been there and alway knocking on the door if the podium and added few class wins along the way. We are so grateful to have you registered this year for your first foray at a championship, and hopefully, you can maintain the class lead! Obviously a certain percentage of this success is down to the guidance from the expertise in Conal, a very steady and dedicated navigator, with bundles of experience from Rally2 machinery and Honda C Civics to Toyota Starlets and a host of various Ford Es**rts of differing guises. Let's hope the lads can maintain their great work from Monaghan and go one better in Galway and get the class.

Congratulations lads, from us all at the Sligo Pallets BorderRally Championship on your 'Drive of the Day' win, and we wish you continued success for the rest of the season!
