The Mohill community is just starting to come together for Fleadh Cheoil Chonnacht happening this July! This festival is a celebration of our local music, song, dance, and community spirit, and it’s only possible with support from people like you.

Tribute night for Noel Sweeney 🎻

A special celebration concert honouring the musical life of Noel Sweeney was held on Friday 22nd May in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel. Musicians, singers and friends came together for a fantastic evening of music, song and camaraderie in recognition of Noel’s enormous contribution to traditional music over many decades and the respect and affection in which he is held throughout the music community.

Born in Drumnamore, Co Leitrim, Noel comes from a family of nine. His musical journey started early on and was largely inspired by his parents, Willie and Katie Sweeney. Noel has been a member of several céilí bands, including the Green Castle Céilí Band from Cloone, Fr Quinn’s band called ‘The Shannon Breeze’ and most recently, the Abhann Glas Céilí Band from Longford. After winning the All-Ireland Senior Flute title in 1982, Noel joined the popular Declan Nerney band as a saxophonist, touring extensively all around the world.

Leitrim-born flute player, John Lee, described Noel as an ‘ambassador for flute playing and for Irish music’. On the night, Noel was presented with a portrait painted by renowned artist, Mike Lancaster.

Inviting you all along to the launch of Fleadh Cheoil Chonnachta on Friday May 22nd at 7pm. We are honoured to have renowned Leitrim musician, John Lee to launch the event in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel - in the Ballroom bar (parking at back of hotel)
This will be followed by a fantastic night of entertainment as we pay homage to the contribution that musician Noel Sweeney has made to the music in Leitrim, Longford and beyond when he will be joined on stage by a myriad of musical guests who will give us an insight into Noel's musical career and will keep us well entertained with music, songs and stories.
Concert is free - no booking required - donations on the night towards the running of the Fleadh in Mohill. So come along and support and help us kick off Connacht Fleadh 2026

The Connacht Fleadh 2026 committee warmly invite you to the official launch of Fleadh Cheoil Chonnachta in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel on Friday May 22nd at 7pm and afterwards to celebrate one of Leitrim’s finest musicians, Noel Sweeney whose contribution to the music scene goes beyond Leitrim, Longford or wherever he has called ‘home’.
There will be a myriad of musical guests on stage to reflect Noel’s musical journey so far and you can be sure of a great night’s entertainment. Event is free, with donations on the night going to support Fleadh Chonnachta 2026 which kicks off in Mohill on June 28th and runs through until July 5th.
