Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon

Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon Incredibly scenic, incredibly tough. A marathon through the scenic heart of County Wicklow A scenic route with plenty of ups and plenty of downs.

Cyclists have long known the allure of the 'Lap of the Gap' circuit taking you from the village of Laragh to the highland pass of Sallygap and back past Lough Tay (the 'Guinness Lake'). From quiet country back lanes to the barren and dramatic heather landscapes once you pass the Glenmacnass Waterfall. Both our marathon and half-marathon adds a 'tail' to the traditional Lap of the Gap to allow you

to start in the monastic village of Glendalough - one of Ireland's most popular tourist destinations. We hope you will get not just a race out of our event - but an experience for a lifetime. The event was successfully held the first time on 28 May 2016 with over 150 finishers over the two courses. Current course records:
Half marathon, 1:23:22 (M), 1:36:19 (F)
Marathon, 2:57:00 (M), 3:23:13 (F)

One small favour from everyone who ran Lap of the Gap this year.

Our Racecheck rating currently stands at 4.73/5, which we’re incredibly proud of β€” but we don’t yet have reviews from the 2026 event.

If you enjoyed the day, the atmosphere, the challenge, the volunteers, the Wicklow scenery or simply survived the Gap in one piece, we’d really appreciate you taking 2 minutes to leave a review below.

It genuinely helps independent events like ours more than people realise and helps future runners decide whether to join us next year.

Leave a review here:

Thanks again for being part of the day.
