๐™๐™๐™ฎ๐™ฉ๐™๐™ข, the upcoming August Craft Month exhibition, is now accepting applications! This year, we invite makers to consider the connections between making and music.

Are you drawn to the rhythm and repetition of traditional music, where patterns emerge, repeat and develop? Do you visualise harmony and tone in your work or does it call to mind a soundscape? Or see the movement and flow of a lyric? A musician playing in a group may bring a new interpretation to a piece in that context โ€“ does working in a collaboration drive new elements of your practice? Has a song sparked an impulse or an idea that you want to express through your making? Or perhaps the tactile pull of the materials used in instrument-making โ€“ metal, wood, leather and textile โ€“ open areas for exploration for you.

We invite you to consider these and other interpretations of the theme for our August Craft Month exhibition 2026 and we look forward to receiving your proposals!

๐Ÿ“† Join us on Wednesday 13th May at 11am for an online workshop on Teaching Creative Workshops

Are you a maker, confident in your making skills and wanting to pass these on or grow your income through workshops and classes? Or maybe you are already teaching your craft, but want to connect in with other makers who teach. Are you planning to host an event during this yearโ€™s August Craft Month and want some support?

Join Patricia Van Den Akker of the Design Trust, through DCCI and Craft NI as part of August Craft Month resources for craft makers, in a short, tip-filled webinar, based on her 2025 book Teaching Creative Workshops.

Why take part? Packed full of advice, inspiration and practical information, this will be a practical, step-by-step session focused on helping makers decide what kind of event is right for you. Are you building audiences, attracting commissions, adding an income stream, or passionate about communicating your craft? Patricia will cover:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Choosing the right type of event: Helping you consider what you could offer, who itโ€™s for, space & practical constraints, and the realities of your time, energy and budget;
๐Ÿ‘‰ An overview of potential event formats: incl. open studios, demonstrations, workshops, exhibitions, talks and tours. Patricia will share the pros and cons of each, alongside simple ways to enhance and elevate them to make it more engaging or special.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Building memorable experiences: Patriciaโ€™s knowledge of destination marketing will help turn even a simple event into a memorable experience, through storytelling, small moments of participation, and creating reasons for visitors to come to your event and even linger.
๐Ÿ‘‰ Simple event marketing tips: Focusing on clarity, invitations, and making the most of your existing platforms and networks.
๐Ÿ‘‰ The importance of audience surveys, how you can help us in reaching your visitors and how you can share your experience of taking part in August Craft Month 2026.

๐Ÿ‘‰The workshop will conclude with an optional practical session for those who want to go further and develop their own event idea.

Donโ€™t miss this opportunity to make the most of your participation in August Craft Month 2026.

We look forward to seeing you there!

๐Ÿ“ฃCraft NI is delighted to welcome applications to take part in the 2026 August Craft Month Exhibition!

Our theme this year is '๐—ฅ๐—ต๐˜†๐˜๐—ต๐—บ', and we invite craft makers to consider the connections between making and music, traditional or contemporary. In August 2026, Belfast will be the host city for the annual Fleadh Cheoil na hร‰ireann, with an estimated 800,000 visitors to the city for the first week of the month. Craft NI Gallery will be part of the pedestrianised concert zone - what better opportunity to introduce work from craft makers to a new, culturally-engaged audience visiting from across the island and beyond?

The full brief and application process are available at the link below and the Craft NI website.

The exhibition will take place from July 23 to August 28, 2026 at Craft NI Gallery, Belfast's only craft dedicated venue, and participating makers will benefit from promotional activity around August Craft Month, marketing support from Craft NI Gallery and be featured on our dedicated exhibition website.

We are grateful to the Guild of Designer Makers for their legacy gift, which enables us to award exhibition prizes to emerging and established makers.
