Our first music journalist peice by our new member of the family, Mr Eoin Coyne, give it a read and find out what your missing enjoy.

Rhythm and Brews 30th of March

The night was kicked off by Sarah Deegan and I'll be straight with you lads I missed a bit of her set. From what I saw however, she's a real talent. Despite faltering at one point she powered on like a true professional. Now I myself am more of a band guy but I can appreciate a solo musician with a guitar and I can definitely appreciate Sarah's talent and I really think she has a future in music. I love artists that can blend a melodic voice with acoustic guitar and in that regard Sarah is more than capable! I'll be saying this a lot with the artists here but look her up on the social media there and see if there's any other ways you can support her besides just liking on Facebook.

Up next was Tootawl from Cork. The man's music is poetry lads. Another solo artist yet again blending a great voice with the acoustic. I just get a vibe from TwoTawl that I haven't gotten for a while now. If you're like me, you want new music and find it hard in saturated markets of hundreds of bands that all sound the same. TwoTawl is one of the few artists that stand out from the crowd. Two particular songs from his set that stand out for me were; his cover of "The Joker" by The Steve Miller Band (I still call Steve Miller Maurice) of which I'm not normally a fan and his closing song. A country tinged tune and a half! Probably the closest I'll ever come to liking a country song. But like I said these are just two stand out movements from a great set. TwoTawl has an EP titled House on the Moon with the track About Love being a particular favourite for me.

Up next was 1000 Splendid Sons (loving that name btw). I like their concept; A band of multi instrumentalists switching instruments between songs. That's where they fall down for me though. There's good tunes and talent there but they need to work on switching out their instruments. I found it halted the pace of their set and lead to them going slightly over time. I sound like I don't like this band (I do) but once they get the instrument switch down to a science it will allow their true talent to come through. They definitely are talented bringing what I feel to be (sorry if I'm wrong on this one) a very indie/punk/grunge vibe similar to bands such as Beach Slang or Sonic Youth so if I were you I'd give them a listen. Hunt them out on social media and show them some support.

The headliners of the evening were Little Routes showing us straight up what they can do as a three piece. Launching into their set with a band new cover of Gorillaz Feel Good Inc (Humanz is going to be class lads) what stood out for me (apart from the lads being class) was Breen channelling Gorillaz fictional bassist Murdoc Niccals by just going mental on the bass, jumping into the crowd and generally being a beast. As I had hoped their new material is class. My particular favourite being (the as of yet untitled track) which I think should be named Oh ah oh ah. There was the old bit of skullduggery with regards to their decision to ditch most of their original songs in favour of the new ones. Admittedly the boys are much tighter as a three piece but in regards of the shouting of "you should have gotten rid of ginger a long time ago" (I don't support that kind of craic lads but I tell it like I see it) it's obvious people who already prefer this current incarnation of Little Routes to the original.
As well as their new stuff, one of my favourite songs from the set was their Mumford and Sons cover (I recall Blank White Page) because lads you need a little bit of Mumford and Sons. Don't try and be cool and pretend you don't like them!
Little Routes may benefit better as a three piece and with a tighter sound and new tunes we're going to be getting a lot of good stuff from the lads in the future. Finishing off the night was SeΓ‘n Maher and an amazing cover of Thunderstruck. If you weren't there Thursday night you missed out. And if you're not there next month you're still missing out. Come on just go to the Rhythm and Brews lads.

This is my first official review of the Rhythm and Brews and it might be a shaky start but we'll grow together.
