Applications are now open to volunteer at the 2026 Galway Film Fleadh! 🎬💚

Galway Film Fleadh wouldn't be possible without the energy and dedication of our amazing volunteers. Whether you're a student looking for experience, a film enthusiast keen to get closer to the action, or someone who just loves the buzz of a live event - we'd love to have you on board.

As a volunteer you'll gain hands-on experience behind the scenes of Ireland's leading film festival, attend screenings and events, meet filmmakers and industry guests, and connect with people from all over the world. A variety of roles are available and training will be provided. No previous experience necessary!

The 2026 Animation Ireland Meitheal was held in Galway on Friday, with Galway Film Fair Director William Fitzgerald in conversation with director John Kelly about the journey of his short Retirement Plan from the Film Fleadh to the Oscars.

Congrats to the Animation Ireland team on another fantastic edition of Meitheal filled with great content, networking, and animation industry insight.

EITILT! Giving flight to underrepresented creatives…

Galway Film Fleadh is a proud recipient of the inaugural Amazon Regional Creatives Fund Ireland. The fund will support EITILT, a new career pathway programme developed by the Galway Film Fair to empower underrepresented creatives in Ireland’s film and television marketplace.

EITILT will invite 3–5 creators each year, whose work reflects the diversity and regional context we would like to see represented in our marketplace, and provide them with sustained, structured support. The programme will include tracking of participants and projects to ensure underrepresented people and stories have equitable access to further development.

We are deeply saddened to hear of John Byrnes’ passing. John volunteered with the Galway Film Fleadh and Generation Fleadh for many, many years and was a valued member of our volunteer team, brightening everyone’s days with his generous heart. John will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our sincere condolences to his family, friends and fellow volunteers. May he rest in peace
