It was an absolute pleasure to host the RTÉ Radio 1 programme for the Galway West by-election special, live from the School of Computer Science, University of Galway, Ireland . 📻

A great team to welcome on campus and interesting to see how they make the show, with great insights from our very own Brendan Flynn, Pat McGrath and Karen Ronan from the Galway Chamber , and Kevin Heanue, Connemara West Plc .

A special thanks to all involved. 👏

✨Member Spotlight - Galway Greyhound Stadium

Join Regional Sales Manager Sinéad O'Connor for a Fundraising Information Evening

Community groups, clubs, and schools are invited to attend a special fundraising information evening hosted by Greyhound Racing Ireland at Galway Greyhound Stadium on Friday 15th May at 7pm.

Led by Regional Sales Manager Sinéad O'Connor, the event is designed to showcase how fundraising can be transformed into an easy, enjoyable, and successful experience. Attendees will gain insight into practical, proven approaches that remove the pressure often associated with organising fundraising events, while maximising returns for their organisation.
The session will highlight how Galway Greyhound Stadium supports groups at every stage of their fundraising journey, from initial planning through to delivery, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for organisers and attendees alike.

Special guest Paul Galvin will be in attendance on the night. As all Kerry fans will know, Paul was talismanic winger for Kerry GAA and a central figure during one of the county’s most successful eras, winning four All-Ireland Senior Football Championship titles (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009) along with multiple Munster Championships and All-Star awards. Known for his relentless work rate, creativity, and fierce competitive edge, he played a defining role in Kerry’s dominance throughout the 2000s.

As an added incentive, all attendees will be entered into a draw to win a fully hosted fundraising night for their club or organisation. Guests will also enjoy refreshments on arrival and have the opportunity to meet canine ambassadors from the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust, who will be on hand to welcome attendees and share more about their work in helping greyhounds find their post-racing homes as family pets.

This promises to be a relaxed, informative, and engaging evening, offering valuable ideas and support for anyone involved in fundraising within their community.

➡️Public Consultation Opens on Economic Development Strategy for Galway City and County
👉Share Feedback by 22 May 2026

Galway City Council and Galway County Council, supported by Grant Thornton, have launched a public consultation to inform the development of a joint Economic Development Strategy for Galway City and County.

This strategy will help shape the growth of Galway City and County over the next decade and beyond and inform decisions on key economic areas including job creation, enterprise and cluster development.

The strategy will also consider wider place-based factors that influence and impact economic growth and opportunity including infrastructure, connectivity, research skills and sustainable development of our city, towns, villages and rural areas throughout the County. The strategy will also frame the investment needed to achieve the ambition.

Stakeholders, including local businesses and residents are encouraged to share their perspectives to help shape a plan that leads to long-term and inclusive prosperity across of Galway City and County. The strategy will also frame the investment priorities needed to achieve this ambition and further grow the economy with a current value in excess of €16.4 billion.

The consultation is part of a wider body of work in the strategy development led by Grant Thornton including economic analyses, consultations with policy makers and stakeholders on a local, regional and national level as well as consideration of wider macro-economic trends and their implications.

Transparency and participation are fundamental tenets of the process and whilst businesses are an important stakeholder, the councils are also keen to have the views of residents from across Galway City and County.

Leonard Cleary, Chief Executive, Galway City Council commented, “This joint Economic Development Strategy is a real opportunity to shape Galway’s future - addressing today’s challenges while unlocking new opportunities for the years ahead. I am encouraging people to engage and have their say so that our Councils will deliver a strong, ambitious plan for a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient region .”

Galway County Council Chief Executive, Liam Conneally said; “This strategy will send a clear signal to businesses that Galway city and county, as the economic engine of the region, is prepared and open for business.”

The online consultation period runs for a period of 4 weeks and will close on 22 May 2026.
