The Bonny Men ‘Homecoming’ Gig

⏰ Sunday, November 23rd @ 7.30pm

📍Church of the Holy Name, Ranelagh, Dublin 6

Since forming in 2011, The Bonny Men immediately became known for their unique sound and “electrifying” stage performances.
With three studio albums recorded, the band has gone from strength to strength, performing regularly on television, radio, and across the festival circuit.

Over more than a decade, The Bonny Men have drawn on their collective experience to shape a sound that walks the fine line between traditional Irish music and a new, vibrant energy — all underpinned by the driving arrangements for which they are renowned.

This vital seven-piece group is comprised of brothers Conor and Barry Lyons; siblings Natalie Ní Chasaide and Maitiú Ó Casaide; Adam Whelan, Turlough Chambers, and Moss Landman.

The Bonny Men have recently welcomed a new member, sean-nós singer Róisín Chambers, whose addition has brought a fresh dynamic to their performances. Staying true to their traditional roots, The Bonny Men are celebrated for their ability to take the music from its home place and give it a new lease of life — revitalising and reimagining long-lost and hidden tunes.

This ‘Homecoming’ concert holds special significance for the band, as it marks their first performance in Ranelagh since their debut gig at the Ranelagh Arts Festival in Sandford Church in 2011. It also celebrates the 10th anniversary of their second album, Moyne Road, named after Natalie and Maitiú Ó Casaide’s family home in Ranelagh. Moyne Road has long served as Bonny Men HQ, where the band have rehearsed weekly for the past 15 years.

The band’s deep ties to this small corner of Ranelagh make this event a unique opportunity to hear them perform just a stone’s throw from where their music is made — in the intimate, candle-lit setting of the Church of the Holy Name, Beechwood, Ranelagh.

Mik Pyro’s Dublin Blues Cartel will play at our inaugural Music In The Mountains Festival.

They mostly play a version of New Orleans R’n’B with a classic rock twist, sandwiched with swing, Rock’n’Roll, Soul, Funk, Blues and rap of all eras. Their sets consists of radical reworkings of well known R’n’B standards which segue into lengthy improvisations that are one minute, blues jazz crescendo, the next a funk dervish, one minute a psychedelic freak out, next a country boogie twist, the next a dark ascension of Wagnerian majesty.

Featuring some the best musicians Ireland, Dublin Blue Cartel are fronted by Mick Pyro, a member of Republic of Loose who have had three top ten albums in Ireland, one reaching number 2. Mick has supported U.2., The Roots, Ian Brown, The Neville Brothers, Guns n Roses, Snow Patrol and the New York Dolls. He has Co- produced a track for Sinead O, Connor and has appeared with her on stage several times. He has recorded with Camp Lo, Styles P (I like Music) and U.2. (Tribute to Ronnie Drew)
