The Oman Cup Oman. The Oman Cup attracted the cream of Dublin and Leinster Middle Distance stars. It was run from the Ashtown gate to the Gough Monument in the Phoenix Park.

The Legendary and Notoriously Fast Dash of 2 miles 234 yards down the centre of the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland on New Years Day which was hosted By "Dublin City Harriers" and Named after a founder of the club John J. Although Initially Dominated by Dublin Clubs a Major Surprise Occurred in 1961 when the Cup left the capital for the first time and headed to Drogheda with the Lourdes Athletic Clu

Mickey Dawe who finished in 3rd place
Chrisy Donnely 9th Place
Frank Brown 11th Place
Peter Mc Kenna 12th Place

This gave Lourdes AC a Score of 34 points, nineteen ahead of Metro who finished Second. It was a significant win which confirmed the status of the Drogheda outfit as a top senior club. They went on to win this race for the following five years in a row. A Munster Team occasionally took the Cup home too. From over one hundred starters that year the individual winner was multinational champion and course record holder Terry O’ Conner, of DCH.

The Great Ireland Run 10K. The origins of the race date from 1953 when the Oman Cup, a race over the length of Chesterfield Avenue, from Castleknock Gate to Zoo Corner, a distance of 2 miles 234 yards was staged to honour an iconic member of Dublin City Harriers, John Oman. Eamonn Coghlan holds the record at 8 mins 51 secs.

He passed away peacefully this morning with his family by his side
