We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, Paddy Keenan.
One of Ireland’s most celebrated uilleann pipers, Paddy was a truly remarkable musician. His unmistakable sound and extraordinary talent influenced generations of musicians in Ireland and across the world. As a founding member of The Bothy Band, and throughout his distinguished solo career, his contribution to Irish traditional music was immeasurable.
We were privileged to welcome Paddy to TradFest on several occasions over the years, from his early appearances with Tommy O’Sullivan to his most recent performance at Dublin Castle in 2024. That very special evening celebrated the rich musical traditions of Irish Travellers and honoured the late Traveller piper, John Rooney.
It was always a privilege to have Paddy and his music as part of our festival. We will remember those performances—and Paddy himself—with enormous fondness and gratitude.
Our thoughts are with Paddy’s family and friends, and with the countless musicians and music lovers whose lives he touched.
