YOU’LL LOVE ZINC IF YOU LIKED…
The Zone of Interest (film) — for the way European history and systems of power shape individual lives.
East West Street (book) — for the way borders, identity and European history become deeply personal.
Deaf Republic (theatre) — for ambitious theatre exploring the relationship between the body, politics and power.
Chekhov’s First Play — or any of Dead Centre’s other shows (theatre) — for Dead Centre’s distinctive theatrical language and bold way of reworking form.
This is the story of something that came into existence by accident, was exploited, extracted from its place of origin, and sent to far off places. That something was a man called Joseph Rixen. This is also the story of zinc. Over the course of his life Rixen was a Neutral, subject of the German Empire, resident of the Kingdom of Belgium and citizen of the Third Reich. He did not cross any borders, borders crossed him. ZINC will explore how the human body becomes a map – a site where the struggles of politics and history determine who we are.
Conceived and created by Dead Centre with Théâtre de Liège, ZINC is a major international collaboration, co-produced by five partners and bringing together five performers from five locations. Performed across nine languages – the native languages of its cast – and taking to the large stage of the O’Reilly Theatre, this is Dead Centre working on an ambitious international scale.
