Dublin Theatre Festival deeply regrets the passing of actor and writer Michael Patrick. We were greatly privileged to present Michael’s last play, My Right Foot, during the 2025 festival, made in collaboration with his long time artistic partner Oisín Kearney. Michael was a great man, and a huge talent. The festival extends sympathies to his wife Naomi, family and friends. Are dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.

Today, on World Down Syndrome Day, we celebrate the power of the stage to transform the way we see the world.
Relive the magic of Teatro La Plaza’s “Hamlet” from No Limits 2024.
Dublin Theatre Festival 2025 opened with Teatro La Plaza’s “Hamlet”. If you saw it or missed it and want to relive or see behind the scenes of the tour please go to the link in the bio.

Eight actors with Down syndrome reimagined the classic “To be or not to be” as a powerful cry against societal prejudice. Now, their extraordinary journey, spanning over 50 cities across five continents, has been captured in the 25-minute documentary short, “Hamlet Around the World”, premiering globally today!
Step behind the scenes and witness the actors’ emotional journey of courage and dreams, both on and off stage. Join us for this collective premiere and experience how theatre transcends borders when we share the truth.

“This is more than just theatre. It is art, activism, political resistance and storytelling – painful, joyous, elemental and essential.” ★★★★★ The Guardian

Return to Palestine centres around Jad, a Palestinian born in America, who goes to Palestine for the first time in his life. Wanting to know more about his people and identity, he finds out that reality is very different from what he has seen in the news.

Return to Palestine is directed by Micaela Miranda and devised together with the ensemble of Graduate actors from The Freedom Theatre School in Jenin. It was created after extensive story-gathering through playback theatre with the communities engaged in The Freedom Theatre’s annual Freedom Ride.

The play includes stories from Jenin refugee camp and city, Fasayel, Dheisheh refugee camp, Mufaqara and Jabalia Camp in Gaza. In a sarcastic, comic and tragic style, the actors create the space, characters and even the emotional spaces they live in, with skilled play with their bodies in a very small stage – “as small as Palestine”.

Co-produced with Dublin Theatre Festival and The Freedom Theatre, Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine, funded by The Arts Council of Ireland / An Chomhairle Ealaíon. This is the first time that the legendary Freedom Theatre will perform in Ireland.

Slingshot is back!

Dublin Theatre Festival are excited to announce the return of SLINGSHOT, a residency initiative in Festival House.

This Residency in Festival House is for theatre makers who are working on projects with an ambition for European co-production and touring. The space is available for between two and eight weeks in February to end of March. The ground-floor and wheelchair-accessible space is offered free of charge.

This opportunity might suit you if you are looking for a place to explore some early stage ideas for a new project, or the next stage of an existing project, on the floor with collaborators, some quiet time to read, research and talk with people, or a combination of both.

Structured mentoring is offered from the Festival team to support project development, along with financial support and guidance for one international research trip to facilitate career opportunities and professional networking.

The Residency also includes the following benefits: heating, wifi, access to printer and scanner, access to kitchen, free tea and coffee supplies etc.

In our assessment of proposals, Dublin Theatre Festival will prioritise projects of international ambition and reach.
This year, Participating Slingshot artists will also be offered two group training and mentorship sessions on developing international practice.

❗️Applications close Wed 17 Dec at 5PM❗️

To submit your proposal, please fill out the form in our bio or via our website under Artistic Development 🌟
