Huge congratulations to everyone who took part in the IWFF Winter Nations on Saturday 8th September. ROI Walking Football Association entered teams into the Women’s 50s and Men’s 50s, 60s 65s and 70s.
It was a tournament of if, buts and maybes!
It was a tough day for our Women who only had a small squad due to some late injuries, but everyone gave their best and no doubt will be ready for the next tournament.
The Men’s 50s came so close to bringing the trophy home, victories against Celtic Nations, Sweden and Wales saw them joint top of the league with Wales. In the Final though it was Wales who came out on top with a 1-0 victory.
Our Men’s 60s team had a mixed day, victory against the Celtic Nations, but defeat to England and Wales saw them finish 3rd in their group.
The Men’s 65s also came so close to winning the trophy, 3 wins and a draw saw them progress to the Final, but in a tense affair it was England who came away with the victory.
Finally the Men’s 70s who remained unbeaten in their group with 3 draws also ended the day with the runners up trophy

The ROIWFA over 65’s men’s team qualified after the league stage (over two days) to play in the The Masters World Walking Football Cup August 2026

Our opponents were England EWF.
Our last meeting was in the Triskelion Cup Final in Birmingham in July when we lost in the last minutes to an England penalty awarded for 4 running offences (FA rules) against us.
We were keen to win this time .

England got a very nice early goal scored by their Player Manager Graham Liddiard.
Ireland battled well and both teams played very good quality walking football .
Given the rules we were playing to, both teams also avoided conceding a penalty for 5 offences. (UEFA rules)
We were both sitting on 4 at the final whistle!
The game was played in a competitive but friendly manner.
Congratulations to a very good (and nice) England EWF team.

Huge congratulations to all our teams who competed in the The Masters World Walking Football Cup August 2026 74 different players wore the green jersey with pride and passion. Between them they played 53 games across 7 different teams, with positive results in 34 of the games.

Many thanks to to our hosts for putting on a great tournament and to all the teams who entered.
