About Five Lamps Arts:
The organisation is best known for its

flagship event, The Five Lamps Arts Festival; an award-winning annual community-based festival that takes place each spring in Dublin’s North East Inner City. The festival first took place in 2007, when Róisín Lonergan, a teacher at Marino College of Further Education, realised that although major national cultural institutions were based in the area, local people were not using them in the same way as the rest of the population. Róisín believed then, as she does now, that it should be possible for all citizens, regardless of socio-economic status, to access the arts. In recent years, the Five Lamps Arts Festival has grown beyond a festival alone, and now additionally works year-round with local community groups and schools to develop and run a wide range of arts-based community development programmes. These creative programmes are a highly regarded resource in an area disproportionally impacted by poverty, drugs, homelessness and dereliction.
