We are having a Movie Night in The Watchtower on Sunday June 14th! A back-to-back screening of two LBGTQ+ films, followed by an open-discussion, and hosted by Scannán Sóisialaí in celebration of Pride Month and as part of Spiral's Big Gay Weekend.

6PM - CHESTBOUND (2025). A short film directed by Janine Anne Uyanga Following Ray’s top surgery, intimate moments with their chosen family are interrupted by news of their father’s stroke, but returning home to see him would mean confronting Ray’s estranged mother. This film is inspired by the real experiences of post top surgery life.
Los Angeles-born filmmaker Janine Anne Uyanga is a curious storyteller who blends their multidimensional experiences with a full commitment to the Black, trans, and q***r communities, enriching the screen with honest, deeply felt narratives. They identify as a certified lover who profoundly cares for their people, the crew they work with, and the stories they bring to life. Often inspired by the intersection of their identity, resilience, and family, Janine strives not only to capture the world as it is but also to revolutionize what the world could be.
7PM - UNITED IN ANGER: A History of ACT UP (2012) by Jim Hubbard and Sarah Schulman. A documentary that combines startling archival footage and puts the audience on the ground with the activists in remarkably insightful interviews from the ACT UP Oral History Project to explore ACT UP (the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power). Showing how from a grassroots perspective a small group of men and women of all races and classes, came together to change the world and save each other’s lives. United in Anger reveals the group's complex culture - meetings, affinity groups, and approaches to civil disobedience mingle with profound grief, sexiness, and the incredible energy of ACT UP.
