Daiwa Irish Pairs

Daiwa Irish Pairs One of the top UK annual sea-match angling festivals, based on the Dingle peninsula Co. Kerry September at 4pm. The competition is solely 'measure and return’. PS.

Whilst it is a very competitive event, the Daiwa Irish Pairs is very much an ‘angling festival’, inasmuch as there is something for everyone, be it the match-man, the specimen hunter, the 'social’ angler, or the novice. The 2015 angling week starts with Registration on the evening of Thursday 17th. September; the first of the pegged matches is on the Friday, then one on Sunday and one on Tuesday;

the rest of the week, up to Thursday at 4pm, is open for anglers to do their own thing and go fishing! A specimen competition runs throughout the week 24/7 from end of the first pegged match until Thursday 24th. The beaches are generally fairly easy to fish and there are stacks of options for the specimen hunter and miles of coastline, rocks and estuaries to explore. Outside of the pegged matches the entrants can pace the week as they wish; there is always results/leaders boards posted at the Match HQ if a little evening social is preferred! In actual fact, the measure and return system, which is now universally adopted through the UK now, was pioneered at The Pairs in the early 90’s. We have excellent sponsorship from Daiwa Sports as well as firm sponsorship from BassBoots, Trident Homes and The Dingle Bay Hotel [our beloved match HQ adjacent to the harbour]! The Pairs is now in it’s 34th. year and remains pretty solid as The flagship sea angling festival in the UK; we are very proud of this and look forward to many more years offering a great week for all. If you want further information please visit our web-site. The Pairs is great introduction to a variety of sea angling [surf fishing, float fishing, spinning, rock-fishing] - targeting species such as rays, bullhuss, bass, mullet, flounders, conger, wrasse…the list goes on, so why not take a look at what we are getting up to this year on Facebook…and maybe next year give it a go! We are taking entries for 2015 until Friday 21st. August 2015

Very sad to learn of the passing of John Amery who was instrumental in establishing the pairs event in the 80’s and 90’s. Thoughts are with his wife Jean and his family. RIP John.

FINAL REPORT AND RESULTS FROM 2025 EVENT

Another fantastic week on the Di**le Peninsula comes to an end and great friends from all over the UK and Ireland part ways again for another year. Final results have been posted below and pics of pairs winners Mick Tapsell and Tom Wells together with runners-up Darren Bond and Colin Carey.

The fishing this year was challenging in places, and the specimen hunt in particular did not produce as many as usual, but some great fish were still caught and a clonking Stingray and some good Bass in the match at Inch and a true specimen Bull Huss in the specimen hunt were the highlights. However the stunning weather during the event week sort of made up for any fishing shortfalls!!

If you want a week of great match fishing and specimen hunting in some seriously spectacular locations, great banter and friendship and the best Guinness in the world then do join us in 2026.

The move to a 100% cash only payout this year for all prizes was a great success and will be repeated next year when we will revert to a more focussed pairs event as before. Dates for next year will be posted in next couple of weeks.
