nities across Ireland have access to the best treatments for cancer and never have to hear the words, there is no hope. Breakthrough is an Irish medical cancer research charity which was launched in 2011 to inspire and enable financial support for exceptional research into cancer in Ireland leading to more effective treatments for patients in Ireland and Internationally. Our focus is on funding world-class cancer research into poor prognosis cancer, which are poorly served by current treatment options, facilitating collaboration between scientists and clinicians across Ireland and Internationally and translating lab discoveries into new effective treatments for cancer patients today, tomorrow and into the future. The Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk
The Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk started with a simple wish, amongst a handful of friends to walk the full 234km Kerry Way for Cork Cancer Research Centre in the summer of 2006. The three days of guided walks start and finish each day in Kenmare and incorporates some of the Kerry Way and Beara Way trails. Walkers have the option to walk one day, two days, or all three days. This event has, within five short years, grown to become a major event on the hill walking calendar raising an phenomenal €00,000 to date. The Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk allows any moderately fit person to join in on a well organised hill-walk, meet new friends, and raise funds to help fight cancer. Peoples’ genuine desire to help a worthy cause is coupled with their opportunity to meet new people and enjoy the Irish countryside. The organisers have found that this desire is often motivated and always catalysed by the number of walkers who have been affected by cancer - either directly or indirectly.
