Brandon bay classic report 2025
With uncertainty and potentially dangerous conditions during the contest window, we made the call to cancel the main event on what looked a great forecast. With a huge North swell forecast, getting off the beach is a big issue due to walls of white water. On the day the swell was smaller than forecast but the wind was also lighter so it was still going to be very hard to get waves.

*EVENT CALL
Hello everyone,
We have made the decision to not run an official ranked event, Unfortunately the swell forecast is too big to run a safe contest here in the Bay.
This past week I have been sailing the bay alot on similar but smaller forecast and the swell has been on the edge of contestable, now looking at what is an even bigger swell I find it would be very difficult to run 15 minute heats, Heats would have to be atleast 30 mins each.

However the forecast does look pretty mega for free sailing. We would like to get the irish wave community here in Brandon Bay for an expression session. King & Queen of the bay, an hour long heat judged by our head judge. Prizes for biggest sends !

This is a shame, but hopefully a few of you will still join us for some fun sailing together and the final weekend in Spillanes.
Also for those looking for escape spots there will be smaller places 40 mins away.

Those who have already signed up I will be refunding you fully soon. Thanks for signing up !

This comes as late news, but unfortunately we had to cancel this years Brandon Bay wave classic due to the lack of forecast over the two weekends. We were very unlucky for something like this to happen at this time of year when the wind is usually so reliable but that says a lot about this autumn. I would like to thank everyone who showed me support in setting up this years event and to the businesses who were sponsoring the event. Thank you .

I would like to continue running this event over the next few years. So hopefully everything will come together next year and you will hear from us closer to the time. thank you

Event Roll over Announcement‼️

This should be the big exciting event call but unfortunately we do not have the wind or wave forecast to run our event this weekend.

We will aim to roll the event over to the following weekend (8th,9th,10th Nov).

Fingers crossed we get some wind & waves 🤞🏼

I (Finn) have been using these for a year now and they really are one of the best calls I’ve made. I wear them literally every time I go on the water. Have had zero ear trouble since using them. I only wish I got them earlier !!

Do yourself a favour, and save yourself from months off the water with nasty surfers ear surgery !

They will also be offering free surfers ear checks in between appointments.

We have been in connection with the team at SBG for a few years now through their sponsorship of which lasted for two years and we’re very thankful for the support they provided Finn. This is also their second year supporting the Irish Wave Tour, helping us run this event in Kerry, I am very grateful and happy to see a large company like simply blue group support our nations windsurfers. Hopefully this is something we can continue to grow and develop over the coming years.

Hope everyone had a great weekend at Mayo Mayhem,

Now to planning for the next event, The Kerry Brandon Bay event is on in just 31 days.

Event starts with November 1st with a Pro competition day. The Saturday & Sunday are for all fleets. I will be making a conscious effort to push some sailors up into the Pro fleet. Good time to challenge yourself ! (This also allows for more people to join the silver fleet) Currently working off fleet sizes of 20 people, this may change so earlier your signed up the better.

Competition slots are filling up nicely, once they’re gone they’re gone ! Event registration closes on the 18th of October.

What Gear do you use ?
Goya banzai is my go to. This year have 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5. I only sail when it’s proper windy really. I’m too fat to get planning when it’s not strong wind, so don’t bother with big gear bollox.
Use goya quad 88l and when it’s just jumping I’ve a super strong flikka for going fast and high as possible.

What is your Favourite wave ? I like waving at buses to see how many will wave back...fills my heart with joy. Apart from that, I love me a bit of fanore. Proper punchy beach break. Aerial heaven. When it’s cross on, it’s full of backy ramps.

Best Windsurf Trip you’ve been on ?
maui trip with Mark Chopper Killeen years back was great. It was the summer, but had great windy jumps sessions through out the trip

Claim to fame ?
bog snorkeling champion 1992. Underwater basket weaving champion 2006.
And on a good day, I can do an odd trick on a windy board.
I can do a flare gybe 7 times out of ten too
