Well worth an aul read.

The news that the sidecar class has been suspended from the 2026 Isle of Man TT came as a huge shock, not just for fans, but for the TT paddock, given that technical regulation changes had already been put in place for this year’s event to try and slow the class down.

Current review by The Southern 100 organisers...
Following the recent announcement by the Isle of Man TT Races regarding the suspension of the Sidecar class for the remainder of their 2026 event, the Southern 100 Club is aware of the ongoing discussions and speculation regarding the inclusion of Sidecars at the upcoming Southern 100 Races.

The safety of competitors, spectators, marshals, and officials remains the absolute priority for the Southern 100 Club.

As the Southern 100 Sidecar regulations align with those of the Isle of Man TT Races, the Clerk of the Course, in conjunction with Senior Technical Officials and the Club committee, is currently conducting a thorough review of the situation.

Over the coming days, we will consult closely with representatives from the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) and the Isle of Man Government to evaluate all available options. This will include assessing whether specific regulatory modifications can be implemented via an official event bulletin to ensure the safe continued participation of the class, or if further action is required.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of the teams, competitors, and fans during this period. A definitive update regarding the Sidecar class at the 2026 Southern 100 will be issued in due course.

Next up on our TT Spotlight is our club member, Brian McCormack. Tramore man, Brian McCormack has always been a fantastic club member over the years, but beyond that, Brian has been a great supporter of motorcycle sport, roads, short circuits and off-road down the years. Not only does Brian bring a sense of flair to the sport, but is also an inspiration to newcomers imparting his experience and bike craft to others freely. Since his debut road race at the 2009 Killalane road races where Brian finished in a very tidy 7th, Brian has chalked up a number of impressive titles such as double Masters Championship winner along with Irish Superbike Champion. Unfortunately a bad crash at Macau in 2023 tested not just Brian's physicality but his mental resolve to get back to the pinnacle of motorcycle sport and return to the TT, with 2026 seeing Brian retain his position in the top 20 seeded TT Riders. Bravery, determination, strength and openess, Brian is the consumate professional in our sport. The last few years have seen Brian take on a Principle role with his Roadhouse Macau Team, with David Datzer his team mate at this years TT with Snickers Workwear and PHR support. Brian has competed at the highest levels both on the roads and at BSB with over 65 BSB races under his belt, while also competing internationally at the Macau Grand-Prix as well as being a regular visitor at The NW200. In 2019 Brian broke into the top ten at that years Senior TT, finishing 9th. He was the fastest southern rider to take to the mountain course for a number of years, taking the acoldade from the late Alan Bonner, at 128.812mph with Cork's Mike Browne taking that from Brian recently ((Always competition between Cork and Waterford). Since 2024, Brian has brought Wexford rider Brandon Kavanagh into the team fold, with Brandon first lining out on the roads at Cookstown 2025, under Brian's watchful eye, where this year, 2026, he recorded his first road race win. So the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. For us at the Faugheen Club, while we are always proud of Brian and his achievements, but the 2022 Faugheen50 was a bit more special for us, where Brian put on a super performance to take the opening Superbike race from Michael 'Micko' Sweeney by 0.038 of a second, with Mike Browne taking the third step. Without question or favouritism it was definitely one of the best, exciting and closest of road races in the last number of years anywhere. Fun fact, Brian's wheelies are not showmanship, he is saving the rubber wear on the front tyre, a total eco-warrior! Wishing Brian, David, Brandon and the entire team a safe and sucessful TT and beyond, keep 'er lit, we're all rooting for you.

Dramatic breaking news from the Isle of Man TT.
PRESS RELEASE
28 May 2026
STATEMENT ISSUED AT 12:15 ON 28 MAY 2026
ISLE OF MAN - STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE ISLE OF MAN TT Following an incident involving a Sidecar team during the third Qualifying Session of the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races, the Race Organisation initiated an immediate technical and operational review to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident and the continued participation of the Sidecar class at the event.
Following that review, in conjunction with the Event Promoter, a decision has been taken to suspend the Sidecar class for the remainder of the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races.
This precautionary measure has been implemented in the interests of competitor and spectator safety and reflects the Race Organisation’s commitment to reviewing all aspects of event safety and operational delivery whenever an incident occurs.
All sidecar competitors and teams involved in the event have been briefed by Race Officials on the outcome of the initial review and the next stages of the assessment process.
We recognise the long-standing history of Sidecar racing at the TT, together with the commitment of the competitors, teams and supporters involved in the class. This decision has not been taken lightly. However, the safety of competitors, spectators, marshals, officials and all those involved in the event must remain the priority.
Further updates will be provided in due course through official Isle of Man TT Races channels.

"While in some repects we can understand the predicament the organisers face, further details need to be explained as soon as possible to the Sidecar teams and the crews. The fact that most of the Sidecar teams and crews have gone to huge expense in time, effort and money to go racing at the TT, surely there could be a feasible solution found to accommodate the crews, unless it's down to current technical regulations that has impacted on machinery safety. Its a sad day for a number of reasons with crews in hospital and the other crews not allowed compete. Its a drastic measure that no doubt no one wanted to make but it starts a very dangerous precedent going forward. Yes Safety always should come first without a doubt, and in fairness the TT organisers are safety led at all times, and learnings must be implemented immediately where possible. We anxiously await the findings when they are made public."
