Masters of Tradition

Masters of Tradition The 2026 Masters of Tradition Festival takes place from 19 - 23 August. It features concerts in Bantr The intimate performances take place in St.

The Masters of Tradition opens its doors to the very best musicians in the land, presenting a series of performances that cover the full spectrum of Irish traditional music, in its most authentic form. Many of Ireland's foremost traditional musicians have performed at the festival since it began in 2002. Previous performers include; Liam O'Flynn; Moya Brennan and Cormac De Barrar; Steve Cooney; Ke

vin Crawford from Lúnasa; Brendan Begley; Susan McKeown; Maighread Ni Dhomhnaill; Donal Lunny and so many more. As ever the Festival is headlined by Martin Hayes, the fiddler from East Clare, whose distinctive touch and extravagant virtuosity has brought the tradition to new levels. His famous trance-evoking sets with Dennis Cahill, who returns again this year, have mesmerised audiences all over the world. The idea for the festival evolved from Martin Hayes' call to create a 'quiet and intimate space' where the heart of traditional music could be revealed. The concept has evolved over the years to produce an event that encompasses a simpler, less cluttered performance format and involving some of the very best Irish musicians sharing their take on traditional music. There are concerts each evening as well as Irish traditional music workshops, talks and masterclasses. We are delighted to confirm that the masterclasses are now the Bord na Móna Masterclasses. Brendan's Church, set in the heart of Bantry, and in Bantry House, one of Ireland's most striking 18th-century mansions, overlooking Bantry Bay.

✨ Piaras Ó Lorcáin
📍 St Brendan's Church, Bantry
📅 Sunday 26 April
⏰ 7.30pm ( doors open at 7pm)

A special opportunity to see this generational talent from Armagh.

Piaras is a traditional sean-nós singer from Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh, and one of the most distinctive young voices in Irish traditional song today.

His singing is rooted in the Oriel tradition, with an emphasis on storytelling, phrasing and emotional depth.

If you have heard of Piaras before now, you'll know this isn't a concert to miss as he doesn't travel down this far south often, and if you haven't heard of him now is the time to get to know him and be able to say you saw him in the foundational years of what will certainly be a long and successful career.

A special opportunity to see this generational talent from Armagh, down in the southwest of Ireland.

Piaras is a traditional sean-nós singer from Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh, and one of the most distinctive young voices in Irish traditional song today. Immersed in music from early childhood, he began singing at just four years of age and has remained deeply connected to the Irish language and its rich oral heritage ever since.

Educated through Irish at Gaelscoil Phádraig Naofa, he developed not only fluency in the language but a profound appreciation for its storytelling and song tradition. During these formative years, he was encouraged and mentored by Bláthín Mhic Cánna, who recognised his natural ability and nurtured his passion for language, narrative and music — foundations that continue to shape his artistic identity.
