8 week Couch to 5k Plan

Advice:

• Run the first few sessions comfortably and without expectation otherwise you are likely to lose motivation

• Start slower than you think you should! The number 1 mistake made is going out too fast.

• Starting slower will help you run longer without taking a break, be patient and don’t worry about pace.

• Those who give their bodies time to gradually get used to the new demands and those who are consistent with good habits will have long term success.

• Beginning a new habit is hard! Start getting into a routine, pack your running stuff the
night before.

• You will have good days and bad days. That’s normal! Learn to listen to your body.

• Mix in cross training to supplement your running. This can increase your longevity as a runner.

🏃‍♀️ FROM COUCH TO 5K! 🏃‍♂️

A huge well done to Kami from Auctus Training Club for taking the initiative and starting a Couch to 5K group to help members add running to their overall fitness and get involved in this year's Tralee Corporate 5K & 10K for Kerry Hospice Foundation.

This is exactly what community wellness is all about and these guys are leading the way.

It was so lovely to meet Kami and some of her group before they headed off on the early stages of this program.

A Couch to 5K programme can help people:

🏃‍♀️ Build cardiovascular fitness gradually
💪 Improve overall strength and endurance
🧠 Boost mental wellbeing and confidence
🔥 Increase stamina for their gym training
⚖️ Develop a healthier, more active lifestyle
🤝 Make new friends and train as part of a group
🎯 Set a goal and work towards something together
🙌 Gain confidence by seeing their progress week after week

Whay js hugely important is, couch to 5k is so accessible.
For someone who has never considered themselves a runner, that first 5K can seem like a huge challenge. But breaking it down, starting slowly and having a group around you can make all the difference.

It's about starting where you are, being consistent, supporting each other and getting to that finish line where you grab your well earned medal and enjoy refreshments and the amazing finish line runners high.

So big kudos for Kami for getting this group moving and encouraging people to take that first step.🥉

We will follow this group to see their progress again in 5 weeks and other corporate companies who are taking the 1st step or aiming for personal bests.

It was great to meet some of the SMBC employees today who will be running in the Tralee Corporate 5K & 10K this November in support of Kerry Hospice Foundation.

Last year, SMBC brought an amazing 53 participants to the event.

This year, they have almost doubled that😊🙌

That is absolutely phenomenal and a brilliant example of what workplace wellness, teamwork and community spirit can achieve.

And there's even more…

🏆 SMBC are also sponsoring the 10K Course Record, so we're looking forward to seeing if someone can take on the challenge and break it on the day and take home the €200 cash bonus.
