I love this evolutionary masterpiece. Teasels have evolved a cup between the leaves for many different reasons.
1. Pest prevention. The pool of water prevents bugs especially aphids from crawling up to the more delicate top leaves.
2. Self watering
3. Nutrients capture.
Plants are so amazing.

NETTLE FERTILISER

For many veg growers and small farmers nettles were an amazing way to fertilise their crops but that was a long time ago. Nettles are a bio accumulator meaning they draw up nutrients and minerals from deep in the soil using their tap root and store those valuable nutrients and minerals in their leaves.
The usual way to make a nettle fertiliser is to chop up the plants and steep them in water for a week or more.
I've taken away the hard work for you
I air dry the nettles (pic 1)
I use a dehydrator (pic 2)
I blend the leaves into a coarse powder (pic 3)
I blend the powder into a very fine powder (pic 4)
50g left in one litre of water for 7 days will dilute to 10 litres of liquid fertiliser.
And yes I get stung a lot but I luckily grow plantain so that rubbed on the sting is far better than dock leaf.

October 21st 2026 is World Earthworm Day. Save that date for The Irish Earthworm count. I am setting up The Irish Earthworm Society iews.ie to highlight the importance of earthworms and the very dramatic reduction in their populations. I am officially kicking off the Irish Earthworm count today and I hope you will all join me. Please share this video the more followers who get involved the bigger noise we can create to help earthworms survive.
Thank you all.

World bee day has just happened but to me the day that celebrates the most important species on the planet is only 5 months away. World earthworm day is on the 21st of October. This day coincides with the anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's book on earthworms.
I would like to honour this day and would love for you who follow me to give me some ideas.
Bees have a better marketing company!!!! It's time to embrace the humble earthworm.
