This St. Patrick’s Day, Ballina Autism Friendly Town are celebrating inclusivity with a relaxed parade space for our autistic and disabled communities.
This relaxed space will be located on McDermott Street, signposted as Autism Friendly.

We are creating a sensory-friendly area, focusing on comfort, understanding and accommodating to the needs of the spectators using the relaxed space.
We ask that all floats and participants in the parade lower noise levels and refrain from using horns or sirens while approaching and passing this relaxed space. Loud music, sirens, and cheering can be very overwhelming for some.

Volunteers in the relaxed space are trained in autism acceptance and understanding and will be present to offer support and guidance throughout the event. They will ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe, allowing everyone to enjoy the celebration.
We would like to thank everyone for cooperation as we make this St. Patrick’s Day about community, kindness, and celebrating our differences.
