Pesta Boneka is an international biennale puppet festival initiated and hosted by Papermoon Puppet Theatre since 2008 in Yogyakarta-Indonesia. Papermoon Puppet Theatre has been well known as contemporary puppetry artists from Indonesia who present their works either in Indonesia, or in other countries. Not only attended by puppetry artists, PESTA BONEKA has been a place where people could see how

puppets could be messengers who deliver message in many different forms, , through many different cultures in many different ways.

OPEN CALL PUPPET CAMP for Pesta Boneka #10 .

Papermoon Puppet Theatre in collaboration with Tom Lee (USA), will hold a masterclass and Puppet Camp as part of ; an international biennale puppet festival that will happen in October 7 -11, 2026 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

We invite puppeteers, dancers, performers, theater makers to do a collaboration and training process in Japanese puppetry techniques (kuruma ningyō-style), and joining the performance of Shank’s Mare at PESTA BONEKA #10. Participants will take part in a puppet camp, rehearsal process, and performance, culminating in joining the performance of Shank’s Mare at PESTA BONEKA #10 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Location : Kampoeng Media/ RUANG PANA .pana , YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA

Facilitation :

1. Accommodation from September 24 - October 12, 2026 (with possible shared room arrangement to another participant by and with confirmation from festival’s team)
2. Meals 3 times per day
3. Experience Japanese puppet traditions and the contemporary puppetry rehearsal and devising process of Shank’s Mare (created by Tom Lee USA and Koryū Nishikawa V Japan)
4. Perform with US and Japanese artists in Shank’s Mare at PESTA BONEKA #10
5. ARTIST PASS, All access to join PestaBoneka10
6. VISA will be covered by PESTA BONEKA

OPEN CALL MASTERCLASS “Hu木an Indonesia”
A Puppetry Workshop for The Audiences (Children) with Special Needs.
-Only for MALAYSIAN artists-

Papermoon Puppet Theatre (Indonesia), in collaboration with Sensorium Theatre (Perth) and The Artground (Singapore), invites artists, educators, students, and psychologists interested in participating in a puppet theater performance for audiences (especially children) with special needs, both physical and neurodiverse, such as ADHD, autism, etc.

The MASTERCLASS process will take place in two stages, with a selection process.

STAGE 1: MASTERCLASS
Number of participants: maximum 2 Malaysian practitioners (selection via form)
Period: April 23-25, 2026, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM WIB
Location: Papermoon House, Sembungan, Yogyakarta, INDONESIA

STAGE 2: PERFORMANCE PROCESS at PESTA BONEKA #10
Number of participants: maximum 2 participants (upon completion of the PHASE 1 process)
Period: September 29 - October 7, 2026 (program implementation time will be discussed further)
Location: Several locations in Yogyakarta
Performance: PESTA BONEKA #10, Yogyakarta, INDONESIA

The workshop and process will be conducted in English and Indonesian.

BRINGING MAGICAL MOMENTS TO AN ABANDONED SWIMMING POOL

When we first came to .pana , we saw an abandoned swimming pool and we decided to bring a new life to this space.

In , artists from many parts of the world performed in this abandoned swimming pool and transform the space to a pool of beautiful energy, with 300 people celebrating puppetry under the trees.

We believe puppetry could change things.
Including an abadoned swimming pool to a pool of amazing things!

Do you remember the performances you saw in our ??

We still remember how the living legend Bernd Ogrodnik .of.puppets performed his legendary Metamorphosis piece, performed his heartwarming piece; Tomte, and alao how and premiered their performance in our festival last time.

We are remembering the wonderful day when we spent time with children at local school nearby .pana , where our festival was held.
from Thailand performed and made workshop with the kindergarten students, and it was SO MUCH FUN!!

PESTA BONEKA opened the collaboration with schools to bring some activities with artists who joined Pesta Boneka.
And this is a way for us to extend the access to merrier audiences.
