TOBA CALDERA WORLD WHITEWATER FESTIVAL - Asahan River, Northern Sumatra
November 28th - 9th of December 2017

Northern Sumatra is home to one of the most amazing, f

riendly and breath taking rivers on the planet - the Asahan. Flowing from the legendary Toba Caldera (the only super volcano to have erupted in human history) the Asahan has a short but exciting course before it reaches the Ocean in the Malacca straight. Hydro Electricity projects in the late 60's have resulted in the river having constant water levels on the Class 5 to 3 white water sections that cover over 30 km. The Asahan is a whitewater paradise with warm water, exotic bird life, you can even expect to be chased down the the river by large primates such as Gibbons and monkeys. Accommodation throughout the festival will be in a small riverside village , we will be eating Indonesian food predominantly sourced from the valley.

INTERNATIONAL KAYAKERS!! We are getting close to the festival (less than a month away) and all the prep is well underway. We are so excited to share the marvel of the Asahan River with all of you soon.

Just a reminder to those who have not yet filled out the online registration form, please do it so we can have your flight details, race division and accomodation preferences on record. Also, book your flights now!!! If you are still pondering on coming, DO IT everybody is coming, this will be the biggest and best year the Festival and the Asahan Valley has ever seen.

Dont forget to get your own travel insurance for the duration of your time here in indonesia, and look into bringing some of your own medical/first aid items. Remember, we are paddling in a tropical and warm environment. Ear plugs, and preventative anti-bacterical eardrops are reccomended. Plan ahead! Medical supplies arent easy to come by when we are in the valley.

Indonesians get taxed 200% on all outdoor equipment, so the locals are always looking to buy used gear from the competitors. If anyone has old gear lying around, or you would like to sell your boat after the festival and leave it here please let us know so we can boost the local paddling community with gear!

Please don't hesitate to ask us any questions, we are here to help you plan your trip to the Asahan and are stoked to see everybody soon! See you on the river... please share this post!!!
