Bentang Jawa 2025 has come full circle.

What began in April 2025 now finds its closing moment through Pancal—the Bentang Jawa 2025 documentary film and photo exhibition—premiered at .

For some riders, this journey did not begin this year. It started years ago—when Bentang Jawa was first seen, first heard, first imagined. Years shaped by doubt, preparation, setbacks, and quiet persistence eventually led them here. Through every rise and fall of an emotionally and physically demanding journey, perseverance became their constant companion.

Our deepest respect goes to .inframe, who wrote, directed, and produced Pancal, capturing Bentang Jawa in its rawest form—its fatigue, its silence, its intensity—drawing everyone around it closer, more intimately, and perhaps more humanly connected.

We are equally grateful to our partners and sponsors who believed in Bentang Jawa, including all of its idealism.

From the beginning, our hope has been simple yet uncompromising: that Bentang Jawa is known not merely as a race, but as a cultural movement—one that honours cycling, the people who ride, and the landscapes and communities it passes through. After five films, five photo exhibitions, one book, we hope we are getting closer.

Until the next chapter—stay with us. More announcements coming soon.

Bentang Jawa 2025 has broken many of its own records — the fastest finisher, the highest number of riders, the most finishers, the longest distance, the greatest elevation gain, and the largest number of dot watchers. Our records show that Bentang Jawa 2025 was viewed no less than 1.4 million times over the course of seven days, triple our usual viewership.

Honoured, surprised, and excited are the first words that come to mind. Yet with new dot watchers also comes curiosity, expectation, and, to a certain extent, judgement. It’s no surprise that some of the comments on social media were not always made with the best intent or consideration. This is expected and understood. After all, ultra-cycling is a rather niche culture and community, with its own written and unwritten rules.

The reason Bentang Jawa exists is to share the beauty of unsupported cycling. This is our north star, the destination of our journey as organisers, and the path we continue to follow — a path that is, in itself, full of opportunities for learning and growth.

The hundreds of stories, life lessons, and inspirations woven through the tapestry of Bentang Jawa 2025 are now being shared more widely than ever before. Knowing that they reach and inspire so many new eyes and minds fills us with joy far more than any criticism could concern us.

In truth, we have always been very fortunate. Our closest families — wives, girlfriends, and children — along with our friends, BJ alumni, volunteers, and long-time dot watchers, have been our staunchest defenders and most loyal companions. Compassionate and understanding of our weaknesses, forgiving yet constructive in their support.

In moments of challenge, they rose to the occasion. They took their valuable time to support us, to respond, explain, enlighten, and guide the newer ones. There are no words that could fully express our gratitude for the friendship, loyalty, and care that has been shown to us.

But if words fall short, let us at least say this: our north star remains unchanged.

Until next year,
Darrick, Eca, Xto, Rihan, and Riefa

Every year, we begin with the same reminder:

It’s not easy to be our sponsor or partner.

Bentang Jawa doesn’t have balloon gates 😉, big backdrops 😅, finisher shirts 😁, or music parties at the start and finish.

We’re very particular about who we feel is the right partner or sponsor, what they bring to the race, and the kind of image we want associated with Bentang Jawa.

What we do have, though, is a belief in treating our sponsors and partners just like we treat our riders, volunteers, and dot watchers — as part of our big yet close-knit Bentang Jawa family.

It’s no surprise then, that many of our sponsors and partners have been with us from the very beginning, remaining loyal friends and steadfast supporters.

With that, we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors and partners:

Big thanks to our accommodation partners!

For the past five years, they have provided a welcoming safe haven for our riders and volunteers; a place to recharge, reconnect, and gather strength for the next journey.

In order of appearance during race week:
• Avery Coconut Island, Carita
• Negla Villa, Rancabuaya
• Patria Palace Hotel, Blitar
• Griya Semeru Homestay, Ranupani
• Hotel Blambangan, Banyuwangi

Each of these places brings its own unique touch of hospitality, reflecting the local culture, character, and wisdom of the area.

One thing they all share is being truly bike-friendly and exceptionally kind to our riders. More than partners, they have become our friends.

After five years of growing and working together, we’ve come to realise that the friendship and trust we share are truly priceless.

Here’s to another five years of friendship and partnership ahead.

While Bentang Jawa is driven by five gents (read: bapak-bapak gracefully stepping into middle age), it is a motor that well oiled and runs smoothly.

The oil that keeps Bentang Jawa alive is the network of volunteers and medics who fill the empty spaces of connection when riders are alone on the route.

The handshakes and hugs offered by these volunteers and medics at each checkpoint, or even along the road, are sometimes the only familiarity riders encounter. A brief respite in the middle of the hardships and the thrills of the race.

Over the years, Bentang Jawa has built a strong network of volunteers across Java. Mas Duta (whose story of joining us is worth telling on its own) helped initiate and organise the very first volunteer groups in Bromo and Blitar, with support from Mas Mahe, Mas Bony, and Mas Evan.

Gravel Tipu Tipu with Mas Tyo and Azwa, now joined by Sam and Epat, have been holding down Rancabuaya since last year. This year, Ivan found himself stuck in Car-1 racing with Stephen.

For five years in a row, Siaga has been our trusted medical partner, led by veteran Yoga, and supported by Dede, Rizki, Mbak Fuji, and Amar, with the full backing of the situation room in Jakarta.

It is no exaggeration to say that volunteers and medics are one of the key forces that have shaped Bentang Jawa into what it is today.

For all the care, love, protection, and friendship you have poured into Bentang Jawa and its riders: thank you.

Day 7 - Banyuwangi

Just as the sun set, and the shadow of Mount Ijen fell upon the city of Banyuwangi, Bintoro arrived as the last rider of Bentang Jawa 2025 to finish within the cut-off time.

Embraced by the warm and comforting hug of his mother, who had been waiting since noon, he broke down in tears.

It might have been a mixture of every emotion he had carried for days since the start of Bentang Jawa, finally released under the familiar safety of home.

That is perhaps the best representation of Bentang Jawa’s last day, both as a rest and as an adventure. A mix of emotions, held together by a promise of self-reflection and acceptance of oneself.

As one chapter of Bentang Jawa now nears its closure, a new page opens for all those who have been touched by this humble adventure.

Banyuwangi, 16 August 2025.

Day 6 – The Majestic Bromo

It begins on a long, straight road with only a gentle incline. There isn’t much to see, just the occasional building or patch of open field. Ride it at noon and you’ll feel the sun scratching at your back, burning through the salt still clinging to your skin from the journey so far.

Then, almost without warning, the scenery shifts. You slip into the forest. The trees rise taller, the road twists and narrows, and the air turns cool. The heat no longer troubles you, but as the climb grows steeper, you can’t help but wonder what waits ahead.

Higher still, the view begins to open. You realise you are perched on a thin ridge, the mountain falling away behind you, another ridge appearing in the distance, wrapped in deep green. The road squeezes tighter, but the forest grows louder, alive with the chatter of unseen creatures.

The fog drifts in, the wind picks up, and every pedal stroke feels heavier. You wrestle with yourself at every bend: walk, ride, or stop altogether. The scattered villages offer a brief breath of relief, but only briefly, before the grind pulls you back in.

And then it happens. The trees fall away, the horizon clears, and the mountain stands before you in all its power. The crater lies hidden in drifting clouds. If fortune smiles, the sky is painted orange or purple. Time slows, and for a moment there is only peace. You catch yourself grinning, wide and unguarded.

It dawns on you, at last. Every ounce of hardship, every sting of doubt, every step of the climb… it was all worth it.

Citra has won more ultra races in Indonesia than most of us can count, yet for so many, Bentang Jawa will always be her stage. Now, she stands as the three-time women’s champion of this event.

Since Bentang Jawa 2021, her calm nature, gentle voice and easy smile have been a striking contrast to the grit, skill, courage and sheer determination she shows on the road. All of it wrapped in a grounded confidence and quiet self-reliance.

It’s hard not to admire Citra; not just for what she’s achieved, but for what she represents. She inspires not only as a rider, but as a builder of community, especially for women in cycling, and as someone whose spirit lifts everyone lucky enough to know her, ourselves included.

To say she embodies the spirit of Bentang Jawa is no exaggeration.

She crossed the line in 120 hours and 37 minutes. Congratulations, Citra.

Kibar and Wak Ribut are the first pair to cross the finish line at Bentang Jawa 2025, clocking an impressive time of 115 hours and 9 minutes.

They’re not just the first father-and-son team ever to complete the event, they’ve also smashed the previous pairs record by a full two hours.

Kibar never kept his ambitions quiet. Back when he took first place in BJ24, he spoke openly about his dream to return and ride alongside his dad. How perfect that the dream came true, with a first-place finish as the icing on the cake.

Throughout the race, their bond was plain to see. The cameras caught moments that stirred the hearts of dot-watchers everywhere: the smiles, the laughter, the kindness and affection that spoke of something timeless. Perhaps it even stirred old memories, or a pang of regret for time we wish we’d spent differently. Yet, it also brought a quiet reassurance that love and care can thrive even in the toughest moments.

More than a race, this was a reminder, to spend time with our parents, to look after them, to cherish every moment while we still can.

Thank you, Kibar and Wak Ribut. And congratulations, your names will now be forever woven into the story of Bentang Jawa.
