Black Queen Hobby and Miniature Painting Competition is an international event that has been taking place since 2007. It is the only purely miniature painting competition organised in Croatia and each year it gathers large numbers of miniature painters from various European countries (like Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Czech Republic, Germa
ny, the UK, Norway and Sweden) but also from the USA. Until 2019, Black Queen has been organised in July as a part of the international tabletop wargaming event Agram Arena Summer. In 2020 it changes the venue and goes to the Vladimir Horvat Gallery at Zagreb's Community of Technical Culture, Trg žrtava fašizma 14, Zagreb, Croatia. Also, the date is moved to the end of February / begining of March as it becomes a part of the UMS Agram's Exhibition of miniatures and tabletop terrain Agram. At the new venue we are able to provide glass display cases for all the entries (at least reasonably sized ones) and the layout of the venue makes it possible to hold several workshops throughout the weekend. Therefore, there are two two-hour workshops on Saturday after the official opening of the Competition and two two-hour ones on Sunday before the awards ceremony. The themes of the workshops and the names of the tutors are announced well before the event so the competitors and visitors can plan their time. Besides the workshops, there are several painting booths available so the visitors and competitiors can paint some minis at the event as well! Black Queen Hobby and Miniature Painting Competition has the following categories:
1. Mounted and Large Miniature (mounted or large miniatures in 28-35mm scale)
3. Unit / Squad (unit of 5+ minis (28-35mm), or exceptionally 3+ minis (trolls, ogres etc))
4. Masterclass (our most prestigious category, anything goes as long as it's a single entry. Previous Masterclass winners can not compete in the first three categories.)
5. Diorama / Duel (self explanatory, two or more minis locked in combat or in any other interaction on a single base (no limit to the size of the base, if you can bring it, we'll display it!))
6. Open (anything that isn't covered in the categories above – primarily reserved for dragons, monsters, warmachines, but also scenery etc)
7. Bust (busts of any size can go in here)
8. BEST OF SHOW (this is a new category which will be sponsored by UMS „Agram“. All of the entries will be judged and the best entry will be awarded a special prize!)
Along with the eight regular categories, there is also the People's Choice award which is decided by the popular vote of the competitiors and the visitors.

Black Queen Hobby and Miniature Painting Competition je međunarodno natjecanje u minijaturizmu koje se održava od 2007. svake godine. Jedino je natjecanje isključivo u minijaturizmu organizirano u Republici Hrvatskoj te svake godine okuplja velik broj minijaturista iz raznih europskih zemalja (Hrvatska, Slovenija, Italija, Austrija, Mađarska, Bugarska, Poljska, Češka, Njemačka, Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo, Norveška i Švedska) pa i šire poput Sjedinjenih Američkih Država. Black Queen se održavao u srpnju kao sastavni dio Agram Arene Ljeto. Od 2020. natjecanje seli u Galeriju Vladimira Horvata pri Zagrebačkoj zajednici tehničke kulture, Trg žrtava fašizma 14, Zagreb te se termin pomiče u veljaču/ožujak te će biti dio UMS Agram-ove godišnje Izložbe minijatura i maketa. U Galeriji, bit ćemo u mogućnosti pružiti staklene vitrine za sve izloške za natjecatelje (barem one koji su razumne veličine :D ). Galerija nam dodatno pruža i mogućnost održavanja nekoliko radionica bojanja minijatura pa se stoga održavaju po dvije dvosatne radionice na oba dana natjecanja (subota i nedjelja). U subotu dvije radionice će se održati nakon službenog otvorenja natjecanja, a u nedjelju će se održati tijekom dana prije dodjele nagrada. Teme radionica kao i imena predavača objavljuju se prije samog natjecanja. Pored radionica, prostor Galerije nam omogućava i nekoliko mjesta za bojanje vlastitih minijatura tako da posjetitelji i natjecatelji mogu bojati minijature i na licu mjesta. Natjecanje u bojanju minijatura Black Queen Hobby and Miniature Painting Competition se sastoji od nekoliko kategorija:
1. Single Miniature (28-35mm);
2. Large/Mounted Miniature (28-35mm);
3. Unit/Crew (28-35mm, minimalno 5 minijatura, odn 3 velike minijature (ogre/troll));
4. Masterclass (najprestižnija kategorija, prethodni pobjednici ove kategorije ne mogu se natjecati u prve tri kategorije)
5. Diorama/Duel;
6. Open (sve što nije pokriveno prethodnim kategorijama, primarno za velike minijature poput zmajeva, divova, ali i prostornih maketa(terena) za stolne strateške igre) ;
7. Bust (biste sva mjerila);
8. BEST OF SHOW (nova kategorija gdje se bira najbolji rad natjecanja). Uz standardnih osam kategorija, posjetitelji i natjecatelji glasaju i za takozvani „People's Choice“ te minijatura s najviše glasova osvaja tu titulu.
