I need to sincerely aplogize that the final year end ranking of the Odyssey of Speed 2025 could still not be published. Since gps-speedsurfing.com changed to the new web site design, I could not download all the final sessions for the final evaluation. I am on it and as soon as I will receive the full data set including all posted sessions the final ranking will follow. Thanks for your understanding!

As our event slowly comes to an end, there is the need to clarify some things with regard to the usage of appropriate GPS devices to record the sessions. Accuracy is key and the basis for a fair competition. According to our rules GPS devices, which rely on the Doppler measurement for the speed calculation are the preferred choice, any result achieved with a Non-Doppler devices is corrected by minus 1 knot. In general:

Everyone must use a suitable GPS device for the Odyssey of Speed.

- The Motion LCD and Motion Mini are ideal, but they are no longer being produced
- ESP or LISA devices may be used as they produce comparable data to the Motions
- Locosys devices such as the GT-31, GW-52 and GW-60 are still good options
- COROS and Garmin watches approved by GPS-Speedsurfing may also be used
- Older Garmin fenix models may also be used but with some basic rules

For the Garmin watches special rules apply:

- Data recording
- Set to "every second", rather than the "smart" default
- Satellite Settings
- Do NOT use standard GPS
- Older Garmin watches work best with "GPS + Galileo"
- Newer Garmin watches work best with "All Systems" or "All Systems + Multi-Band"
- Suitable App
- APPro Windsurf is recommended for the best possible data and minimal configuration
- Uploads to GPS-Speedsurfing should only ever be FIT files, not GPX files! (GPX files do not include Doppler-corrections!)
- Either link your Garmin account to GPS-Speedsurfing, or manually upload FIT files

The organisers may request FIT files from you in order to verify your speeds.

Credits to Michael George for this guidance for optimized GPS usage!

For the next year‘s edition of the Odyssesy of Speed I am currently thinking to exclude all Non-Doppler results from the event. Final announcement via NoR will follow.

2nd Ranking 2025
During the last three weeks the riders on Karpathos continued to deliver good results.
Also in Prasonisi on Rhodes Andy Laufer scored top speeds and clearly showed the potential of the spot for speed surfing. In the 500m category Andy took even the lead with a avg. speed over 72 km/h.

The score board became even closer and we have now two riders from the Netherlands, Greece and Germany each in the Top6, with only 11 points between the 3rd and the 6th place.

The overall score board up to date:
1. Twan Verseput 4,5 points
2. Alexandros Petikidis 14 points
3. Mixalis Damigos 27 points
4. Eric Groot-van Ederen 29 points
4. Tim Otte 29 points
6. Christian Bornemann 38 points
