Tuba Tokcan – Το φωνητικό ρεπερτόριο της πρώιμης Οθωμανικής μουσικής

Σε αυτό το σεμινάριο θα εξερευνήσουμε την πλούσια κληρονομιά της οθωμανικής μουσικής, εξετάζοντας την αισθητική της εξέλιξη από τον Αμπντουλκαντίρ Meragi (14/15ος αιώνας) έως τον Buhurizâde Mustafa Itri(17ος αιώνας). 

Το επιλεγμένο ρεπερτόριο, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στο Nevâkâr του Ιτρί, αποσκοπεί στο να αναδείξει την εξέλιξη των μακάμ και των ρυθμικών δομών μέσα στους αιώνες.

Μέσα από αυτή τη διαδρομή θα αφουγκραστούμε όχι μόνο τη συνέχεια της παράδοσης, αλλά και τις λεπτές μεταμορφώσεις της.

Tuba Tokcan – The vocal repertoire of early Ottoman music

In this seminar we will be exploring the rich heritage of Ottoman music, the aesthetic development from Abdülkadir Meragi (14th/15th century) to Buhurizade Mustafa Itrî 18th century) will be examined. 

Our curated repertoire, centered especially on Itrî’s Nevâkâr, aims to highlight the evolution of makam and rhythmic structures across the centuries. 

Through this journey, we will listen not only to the continuity of tradition, but also to its subtle transformations.

Yurdal Tokcan- Τούρκικο ούτι: ρεπερτόριο και τεχνική (Masterclass)

Στο σεμινάριο θα επικεντρωθούμε στην τεχνική για το ούτι συμπεριλαμβανομένου παιξίματος σε διαφορετικές θέσεις του μπράτσου,
των στολιδιών και της τουρκικής θεωρίας μακάμ, χρησιμοποιώντας πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις που διατηρούν τις δομές και τους τρόπους της παραδοσιακής τουρκικής μουσικής μακάμ,
ενώ θα τις ερμηνεύσουμε ξανά μέσω της σύγχρονης μουσικής αισθητικής και των τρόπων έκφρασης – παραμένοντας πάντα γερά ριζωμένες στην παράδοση.

Yurdal Tokcan- Turkish oud: repertoire and technique (Masterclass)

In the seminar we will focus on oud technique including playing in different positions, ornaments and Turkish makam theory,
using original compositions that preserve the structures and modes of traditional Turkish makam music,
while reinterpreting them through contemporary musical aesthetics and modes of expression – always remaining firmly rooted in tradition.

Yasin Özçimi – Εισαγωγή στην τέχνη του Νέυ
24-29 Αυγούστου

Αυτό το εργαστήριο απευθύνεται σε αρχάριους και μουσικούς στα πρώτα στάδια εκμάθησης που επιθυμούν να αποκτήσουν μια σταθερή βάση στο παίξιμο του νέυ.
Οι συμμετέχοντες θα γνωρίσουν τα βασικά στοιχεία της εκτέλεσης στο νέυ, όπως την παραγωγή ήχου, τον έλεγχο της αναπνοής και τις θεμελιώδεις τεχνικές παιξίματος.
Το πρόγραμμα περιλαμβάνει οργανωμένες ασκήσεις με έμφαση σε τεχνικές στολισμού, όπως çarpma, τρίλιες, glissando και vibrato, με σαφείς παρουσιάσεις και καθοδηγούμενη εφαρμογή πάνω σε απλά μουσικά κομμάτια.
Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση θα δοθεί στην ανάπτυξη ενός φυσικού και γεμάτου ηχοχρώματος, καθώς και στην κατανόηση των βασικών υφολογικών στοιχείων της τουρκικής μουσικής, ώστε οι συμμετέχοντες να εξελίσσονται με αυτοπεποίθηση στη μουσική τους πορεία με το νέυ.

Yasin Özçimi – Beginner Ney Workshop
August 24-29

This workshop is aimed at beginners and musicians in the early stages of learning who wish to gain a solid foundation in playing the ney.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of ney performance, such as sound production, breath control, and fundamental playing techniques.
The program includes organized exercises with an emphasis on ornamentation techniques, such as çarpma, trills, glissando, and vibrato, with clear presentations and guided application on simple pieces of music.
Particular emphasis will be placed on developing a natural and full timbre, as well as on understanding the basic stylistic elements of Turkish music, so that participants can confidently progress in their musical journey with the ney.

Sadreddin Özçimi – Τούρκικο Νέυ (Masterclass)

24-29 Αυγούστου

Αυτό το εργαστήριο απευθύνεται σε προχωρημένους νευζέν (εκτελεστές νέυ) που επιθυμούν να τελειοποιήσουν την καλλιτεχνική τους έκφραση σε υψηλό επίπεδο.
Το masterclass εστιάζει στις βαθύτερες πτυχές της τουρκικής κλασικής μουσικής και της ερμηνευτικής πρακτικής του νέυ.
Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση θα δοθεί στο ύφος και την εκφραστικότητα (üslup και tavır), καθώς και στη λεπτή μικροτονική ακρίβεια («perde hassasiyetleri») που είναι απαραίτητη στα διαφορετικά μακάμια.
Προχωρημένες τεχνικές ornamentation, όπως το glissando και το çarpma, θα εξεταστούν σε βάθος μέσα από επιδείξεις και καθοδηγούμενη πρακτική.
Κεντρικό θέμα του εργαστηρίου είναι η μεταμόρφωση του ήχου: η εξέλιξη από έναν βασικό «ήχο καλαμιού» προς την αυθεντική, εκφραστική φωνή του νέι («hakiki ney sesi»).
Μέσα από εξατομικευμένη ανατροφοδότηση, προχωρημένες ασκήσεις και εργασία πάνω σε ρεπερτόριο, οι συμμετέχοντες θα βελτιώσουν τόσο τον τεχνικό τους έλεγχο όσο και το ερμηνευτικό τους βάθος.

This workshop is intended for advanced ney players seeking to refine their artistry at a high level.
The masterclass focuses on the deeper aspects of Turkish classical music and ney performance practice.
Particular attention will be given to style and expression (üslup and tavır), as well as to the subtle microtonal precision ("perde hassasiyetleri") essential within different makams.
Advanced ornamentation techniques such as "glissando" and "çarpma" will be explored in depth through demonstration and guided practice.
A central theme is the transformation of sound: evolving from a basic “reed tone” into the authentic, expressive voice of the ney ("hakiki ney sesi").
Through precise feedback, advanced exercises, and repertoire work, participants will refine both their technical control and interpretative depth.

* You are required to submit a video in which you perform a piece from the Ottoman classical repertoire.

I myself will be there from the 18th to the 23rd of August together with 5 other instructors in various aspects of modal musical traditions. These seminars will take place at the Bildungszentrum, famous for its magnificent green gardens. A rare opportunity to study unique musical traditions in a location of historic value.
