The Feast of the Ascension ,for Greek Christians is a sacred and deeply spiritual celebration, symbolizing the elevation of the soul and the promise of divine grace.The ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, 40 days after the Resurrection.Additionaly , for Kefalonia and the Ionian Islands it also carries a profound historical significance, as it marks the Union of the Ionian Islands with Mother Greece in 1864.
This important day is honored throughout Greece, and in Kefalonia it has long been intertwined with one of the island’s most cherished traditions: the preparation of the traditional Kefalonian meat pie. More than a festive dish, it was a symbol of family and togetherness — bringing loved ones and friends around the table to celebrate one of the most significant feasts for the island.
Today, we continue this beautiful local custom, keeping the spirit and flavors of our heritage alive through the timeless gastronomic value of the authentic Kefalonian meat pie!
