CinéDOC-Tbilisi

CinéDOC-Tbilisi INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL. A Project of Noosfera Foundation CinéDOC-Tbilisi is the first international documentary film festival in the Caucasus.

The general audience has the chance to view a variety of documentary films with a unique directing vision, an original visual style, sympathetic protagonists and powerful stories. CinéDOC-Tbilisi means creative documentary at its best. The festival presents award winning films from outside of Georgia as well as local and regional productions. The festival contains different sections:

- The Intern

ational Documentary Section

- Focus Caucasus

- CinéDOC-School

The film screenings are followed by open discussions and debates, master classes with renowned film directors, open sessions with invited international guests. The festival is supported by: Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, French Institute in Georgia, etc.

We are very glad to unveil the awards for the filmmakers from the South Caucasus selected for the Film Mentoring Programme 2024 and who pitched their projects on 25 May in front of the international jury: Tue Steen Müller, Gitte Hansen, Phil Jandaly.

We are very glad to share with you the new CALL for the Film Mentoring and Film Support Awards Programme of CinéDOC-Tbilisi 2024! Deadline for applications: 27 March 2024!

For documentary filmmakers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Filmmakers from any other country are also eligible to apply only for the Film Mentoring Programme if they have projects connected to the South Caucasus or to the Central Asian region or if they plan to co-produce, produce or film in these regions in the future.

During the Film Mentoring Programme we offer:
- Personalized mentorship through one-on-one meetings
- Mentorship and interactive discussion of the projects via group works
- Professional feedback on project progress
- Masterclasses and case studies on different aspects of documentary film directing and production
- Selected participants will also have the chance to pitch their film projects to a panel of decision-makers from international film festivals, film markets and broadcasters
- Up to 20 projects can be selected

The Film Support Awards Programme - funded and awarded by the Prague Civil Society Centre:
Eligible projects for Film Support Awards are short and feature-length documentary films directed by filmmakers from and residing in the South Caucasus and/or Central Asia, focusing on change makers and inspiring protagonists who want to improve the situation of their communities. Documentaries that show democratic aspirations and the influence of civic engagement on societies and/or local communities are preferred. The total pool of awards is up to 20.000 EUR.

In addition to the projects awarded within the Film Support Programme, following cash prizes and/or selections to other industry platforms will be awarded.

For filmmakers from the South Caucasus – the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will award:
- New Talents Caucasus Award for Production – 7.000 GEL (for projects from the South Caucasus)
- New Talents Caucasus Post Production Award – 6.500 GEL (for projects from the South Caucasus)
- New Talents Caucasus Development Award – 3.000 GEL (for projects from the South Caucasus)

Other awards / selections:
- DOCA · Documentary Association Georgia Award for a Georgian documentary film project – 10.000 GEL (sponsored by the Human Rights House Tbilisi)
- Selection of one project to the pitching of the Baltic Sea Forum for Documentaries (Riga, Latvia)
- Selection of one project to the Ji.hlava New Visions Market 2024 (Jihlava, Czech Republic)
- Selection of one project to the Nebulae – industry platform of Doclisboa (Lisbon, Portugal)

Application requirements:
- A current documentary film project at development, production or post-production stage
- A link to a previous documentary or audiovisual work subtitled in English
- A good level of English language
- A Participation fee of EUR 175 upon selection (for participants from the South Caucasus and Central Asia)
- For Georgian participants the same amount's (175 EUR) equivalent in Georgian Lari
- The participation fee for filmmakers from other countries is EUR 550 or the same amount equivalent in USD.

The Noosfera Foundation allocates a part of its overall budget to scholarships. Please kindly inform us, in the application form below and include your motivation why you would like to apply for a scholarship (meaning, a reduction of the participation fee) from the side of the organizers.

The program starts on the 15th of April and lasts until mid-September 2024.

It includes a pitching session with international experts scheduled to take place at the end of June.
