York Unleashed is the largest of the Unleashed events, and is held at the impressive York Racecourse in Knavesmire. 2015 was the first Unleashed convention held in York, and the day was a resounding success, with thousands of smiling faces enjoying the many attractions on offer. As it was the first comic-con in the area, there was a lot of interest from residents of North Yorkshire and the surroun
ding areas, and the event did not disappoint. Local media gave York Unleashed glowing reviews, and the turnout was significantly larger than anticipated. The good news is that York Unleashed is here to stay, and fans will be once again able to mingle with their idols, as future events will once again bring a range of special guests to the venue. Celebrities at the first event included actors such as Pam Rose (Star Wars, Batman etc.), and Spencer Wilding (Guardians of the Galaxy, Pan etc.) among several others. As is the case at all Unleashed events, guests are always happy to pose for photographs and chat to attendees. As the venue is so large, the number of traders in attendance at York are numerous. Over 100 tables of delights filled with an assortment of goodies from a variety of geeky themes : superhero, sci-fi, anime, fantasy, horror, supernatural, television, film and many more. Authors and artists are also a staple feature of Unleashed events, and York is no exception. Within the venue itself, the convention is spread out over two levels. The main floor and the mezzanine floor both have traders and attractions situated on them, and there is disabled access via the use of lifts. The fun doesn’t stop there though, as a range of activities are also located outdoors, making use of the warm summer weather. A major theme at York Unleashed is costumes. Cosplay is optional, but for those who do decide to come dressed as their favourite character, they will find themselves among like-minded people, and will have the option to take part in the costume competition. Professional cosplayers are also present at York Unleashed events, and children in particular are delighted to be able to meet their heroes and have their photographs taken alongside characters such as Superman, Darth Vader, and many more. Exhibits are also in abundance at York Unleashed. Previous displays included an 18 foot tall Baymax, Daleks, Iron Man Pods, and a range of other eye-catching attractions. There was even a dire wolf and owls in attendance, enchanting fans of Harry Potter. York Unleashed has proved itself to be a spectacular event, and Hunter Toys is confident that the future is going to be even bigger and better.
