Just three weeks to go until our wildlife day and we are delighted to be welcoming this exciting new project to our 2026 Family Wildlife Day.

NY Village Green is a three-year partnership programme led by Community First Yorkshire and funded by the National Lottery Climate Action Fund. Working with partners across North Yorkshire, we’re helping communities take practical, meaningful steps to respond to the climate crisis — starting with the things people care about most.

On the day they will be running children's activities and sharing information about the project.

PondWatch is back! 6th and 7th of June we will be celebrating the mighty pond, get in touch with British Dragonfly Society with your pond snaps and pond creation stories!

It’s the perfect time to pondwatch, whether it’s in your garden, the local park, a nature reserve, or another public space. Ponds can act as an oasis for wildlife, and your observations can help us understand how they support dragonflies. For the best chance of spotting a dragonfly or damselfly, try to visit a pond on a warm, sunny day – they are most active when the sun is shining and temperatures are higher.

Here's a few photos of our lovely wildlife pond at Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens, where you will be able to look for dragonflies at our Wildlife Day on 28th June. We often see lovely damselflies over the pond and we know that there are dragonflies because we find their exuviae on the reeds!

Back again at our Wildlife Day are North Yorkshire Rotters, sharing their tips on composting kitchen waste and recycling in general.

Composting is a major part of how we keep our garden free of chemicals - if you keep your eyes peeled you might be able to see jst how many compost heaps we have.

Just 4 weeks to go until our 2026 Wildlife Day, and we are continuing to share with you our wonderful exhibitors - this time it is the Yorkshire Dragonfly Group - part of the British Dragonfly Society. Keith is an absolute font of knowledge about all things dragonfly. On a sunny day expect to see damselflies around our pond - and if you are lucky there will be the larger dragonflies too.

And if you want to get involved, why not join next weekend?
