Please note: Script Haven is moving! By the time this event rolls around, our favourite bookshop will be in their new home at 5 Crown Passage, Broad Street, Worcester. Please head there for the April open mic.

We’re bouncing back, babes, and this time we’re bringing in the glorious Catherine Redford as our headliner on April 16.

Catherine Redford’s poetry has been published in Magma (as Selected Poet), Under the Radar, and Propel. She is an editor at Dust Poetry and a Nine Arches Press Dynamo Poet. Her Forward-nominated debut collection, ‘The Way the Water Held Me’ was published by The Emma Press in March 2026.

We’ve got our usual open mic spots of 5 minutes apiece that are available to book NOW! Drop a line to [email protected] to get your name down. We want you and your best words right on that stage with us this April.

Entry is £3 on the door for this event for all-you-can-eat poetry ###

Tonight’s Dear Listener packed a punch as it left 2025 for the shores of 2026.

A unique and brilliant blend of first-half open micers delivering myth, memory, and a dash of naughtiness combined to welcome new voices and regulars. Followed by the poet whose words pack a punch in the boxing arena of life Matt Windle as our headliner.
Feet are tired, eyes are sleepy, but Dear Listener is always dreamy.

Have a safe and loving Yule everyone ###

Dear Listener’s birthday always makes me a little reflective. This time last year I was writing a similar message, to half-explain why I hadn’t been around. Now, I still haven’t been around. But the entire front of the show has been run by the amazing Leena Batchelor at Script Haven, and I absolutely need to take this opportunity to thank her for keeping Dear Listener running while I’ve been in my hidey-hole. She is and has been amazing throughout the last eighteen months, and I will never be able to repay her for taking such good care of my baby.

Every month, Leena sends me the pictures of performers and gives me a little rundown of how the event went, and it fills my heart to see so many people engaging with this platform we’ve created, sharing their words, and being part of the Dear Listener community. I mean it when I say it feels, even now, like a family, and I love that.

So another year passes, another year where I have lost track of our numbers, but I think we’re turning eight years old today. Not bad, for an open mic that only started so I could say ‘f**k’ on stage without someone telling me off for it. Thank you, all of you, for being part of this loud, sweary, space, and for making Dear Listener what it is.

If you’re around this evening, we’ll be celebrating at Script Haven from 6:30pm and we’d love to see you there. And if for any reason you can’t make it: Happy holidays. I love you. Stay brilliant. - Charley ###

Raise your hands if you love a party? Now, raise both hands if you love a POETRY PARTY!?

On December 4, from 6:30pm, we’ll be at to celebrate another year of being loud, sweary and lovely, and we want YOU to help us to celebrate. The amazing Matt Windle is headlining, our open-mic is stacked with brilliant names, and you can see it aaaaaall for the bargain price of £3.

Please, if you’re around, get the date in your diaries and celebrate another year with us 💜

I love a good bookshop, especially an independent one. But Script Haven is so much more than that.

It’s a safe place where people can find quiet to enjoy their latest read. It’s a haven for indie authors and publishers who need an outlet for their books. It’s a community project that looks to engage local organisations wherever and however it can. And it’s a set of opportunities, with talks, visiting authors, workshops and one-off special events that make Script Haven a vast and inclusive cultural hub of the Worcester community.

Now, does that sound like something we can afford to lose?

Script Haven is currently seeking a financial boost from its local community and supporters. I know, in a time where we can’t afford to buy, how can we afford to give? But literally anything, even the smallest of donations, could make a difference longterm. It isn’t about throwing £100 into the pot. It’s about sparing a few £s here and there wherever we can, to ensure that independent organisations like this one aren’t run out of town by the sharks in the water.

Please, if you can help in any way (yes, that includes sharing this post so more people become aware of the situation), the Script Haven team would be eternally grateful—as would the indie authors and publishers who have found a home here. All of the information on how to donate can be found on the Script Haven social media. 📚
