Scottish Legislation

The Scottish Government is proposing to change the legislation relating to the temporary use of land for up to 28 days per calendar year, without planning permission. This proposal seeks to remove this exemption from being applied to shooting ranges for fixed targets.

This could have an impact on target shooting facilities, for example future NSRA Scottish Meetings.

The Scottish Government has opened consultation and this is now live and runs until Wednesday 23 August 2023, which is the closing date for responses. The consultation can be seen at:

https://bit.ly/3oPjw7Y . Section 6.2 and Question 30 relate to shooting ranges, and chapter 8 of the document explains how to respond to the consultation.

It is important for Scottish Clubs and shooters to respond to this consultation to reduce any potential impact on our sport.

The Scottish Government is currently conducting a substantial review of permitted development rights (PDR). Phase 3 focusses on renewable energy equipment, replacement windows, electricity network infrastructure, reverse vending machines and temporary use of land for shooting ranges.

It is with sadness that we inform you that Kevin Hindle passed away in the early hours of Friday, 23 June 2023. Kevin had several health issues, and the exact cause of his untimely passing has yet to be determined.

Kevin was an enthusiastic supporter of our sport and dedicated much of his time to helping and encouraging others, particularly juniors. He held officer and coaching positions at Club, County and Regional level. He was perhaps best known to many as the good humoured range officer at National meetings at Bisley and elsewhere around the country. Kevin will be greatly missed but remembered with much affection.

We offer our sincere condolences to Kevin's family and close friends.

In 2025 the NSRA will welcome a team from the USA to compete in the Roberts Match.

The 2025 Great Britain Roberts Team will be selected from the 2025 Great Britain Roberts Squad. The initial places on the Squad are to be awarded to athletes competing at the 2023 National Rifle Meeting (Bisley) and the 2023 Haig Meeting. So make sure you get your entries in before the closing dates!

- The 2023 Haig Meeting is taking place on 01 and 02 July at Denwood Range near Aberdeen in Scotland. Entries close 24 June. The entry from is available here: https://bit.ly/3Nmttll

- The 2023 National Rifle Meeting is taking place 12 – 19 August at Bisley Camp near Woking in Surrey. Entries close at 12:00 on Friday 30 June. The entry from is available here: https://bit.ly/3pc5g9D

In addition, competitors at 2023 National Rifle Meeting (Bisley) and the 2023 Haig Meeting will be able to earn an invite to the 2024 Great Britain Dewar Team Selection Trial held at Appleton Rifle Club in Cheshire in June/July 2024.

Finally, places on the 2023 Great Britain Wakefield Team and the 2023 Great Britain Randle Team are also up for grabs for athletes competing in the Championship Aggregate (Comp. 7) at the 2023 National Rifle Meeting (Bisley).

The Haig meeting which includes the Scottish Open Championship will take place Saturday 1st July and Sunday 2nd July 2023 from 9:00 to 17:00.

The event run by Scottish Target Shooting will take place at Denwood Shooting Range.

The window for athletes to apply for a place on the 2023/24 Rifle Pathway will open soon.

As with previous years, all athletes wishing to be considered for the Rifle Pathway will need to apply. Relevant information will be gathered via an online form to get the process started.
