The club has many members past and present who are successful in Marathon, Sprint (Flat water) and Wild Water disciplines. Nottingham Kayak Club
The club was formed around 1965 from members of the Peveril School Canoe Club, some of whom still paddle at the club today. Since those early days, the club has always catered for young people, but also welcomed new members right across the age groups. We
seek to offer a variety of canoeing/kayaking activities whatever your level. (We have active members between 8 and 80!)
Fitness – as paddling is a very effective “whole body activity,” a number of our members take part in vigorous training such as water training sessions, time trials and gym sessions purely to maintain fitness. Training alongside these members, are those more competitively inclined at every level from novice to Olympian. Competition – the club is particularly successful in racing disciplines and it is easy to start Sprint Racing, Marathon Racing or Wild Water Racing. Don’t be put off by the terms. They all cater for beginners and people who just want to try. The club has many successful members both past and present in all racing disciplines, at Local, Regional, National and International level right up to Olympic Champions. We also have very successful slalom paddlers. Recreation – We have a number of specific sessions for recreation, including water sessions, swimming pool activities and occasional trips. Skills – The club has very experienced coaches and volunteers who will help with basic skills, or specific ones for racing or other aspects of our sport. We are also keen to develop new Coaches.
