Introducing Nancy Kerr and James Fagan - one of the most beloved and enduring acts in British folk.

Twice winners of “Best Duo” at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, they combine stunning vocals and stellar instrumentation on fiddle, guitar and bouzouki with Nancy’s insightful and poetic lyrics. They have brought joy, inspiration and some memorably energetic arrangements to global audiences since their fortuitous meeting in 1995.

They will be playing our Swildon’s stage on Sunday 12 July, and you can be sure that, from traditional ballads and fiery Northumbrian fiddle tunes, through to some of Nancy’s most popular originals like “Queen of Waters”, “Dark Honey”, “I Am The Fox”, and Australian classics like “Anderson’s Coast” and “The Drover’s Boy”, this set will cover the great dynamic and thematic range for which Nancy and James are so admired.

We still have some weekend tickets available so stop hanging around and nab some either from the link above or try: https://www.priddyfolk.org/get-tickets/

Melrose Quartet are Nancy Kerr (voice, fiddle), James Fagan (voice, bouzouki, guitar), Jess Arrowsmith (voice, fiddle) and Richard Arrowsmith (voice, melodeons). September 2023 saw the release of “Make The World Anew”, which went straight into the Official Folk Charts at Number 11, and followed the critical success of “Dominion” and “The Rudolph Variations.” Their debut album “Fifty Verses” was nominated for Best Album at the 2014 BBC Folk Awards.

From deep roots in Sheffield’s vibrant music, song and dance scene, to concert appearances all over the UK, Melrose Quartet have forged a reputation for making music that truly connects with people. All four are internationally renowned singers, instrumentalists and writer/composers, respected teachers and the patrons of Whitby Folk Festival.

Combining strong instrumentals especially inspired by English dance music with four-part harmony singing, Melrose Quartet are equally comfortable leading a chorus session as playing concert halls. A truly all-round act of the highest quality.

Melrose Quartet will be onstage at Priddy Folk Festival 2026 on Saturday 11 July - if you want to see them you’ll need to hurry up and bag a ticket here: https://www.priddyfolk.org/get-tickets/ or hit the link in the bio above ⬆️

A bit of a double whammy for the weekend - and further on for the Festival itself too!

Kate Griffin, Ford Collier and Matchume Zango need little introduction for regular Festival goers…

Kate and Ford will be playing at this year’s Festival from 10-12 July as will Matchume!

But before that, this Friday in fact, Kate and Matchume will be doing a special pre Festival gig at Priddy Village Hall! (Swipe through for concert poster and ticket info)➡️➡️ℹ️

And for those of you who want to know more about these fantastic musicians, read on!

Griffin and Collier is the new folk duo from the creative voices behind the critically acclaimed global folk band Mishra. Known for their award winning  continent-crossing collaborations that include Indian classical and traditional music from Mozambique, Kate Griffin and Ford Collier now hone in on a more intimate exploration of their roots in the folk music of the British Isles and America.

The duo’s new music is rooted in their accomplished instrumental playing, with both musicians playing at the highest level of UK folk on their respective instruments. While Kate Griffin’s clawhammer banjo is at home within the earthy tones of old time Americana, she has consistently pushed the boundaries of her technique to allow a chameleon like flexibility of style, and Ford Collier has extensively absorbed the techniques of contemporary Irish low whistle pioneers such as Brian Finnegan and Michael McGoldrick. Kate adds to the mix stunning songs that draw from the same creative well, and the resulting sound shifts seamlessly from hypnotic banjo backed by driving guitar, to flowing whistle tunes drawn from Irish trad and intricately rearranged, creating a dynamic tapestry that traces the continuing journey of traditional music from the British Isles.  (continues in comments..)
