What a beautiful weekend we had in Watford!

On Saturday night we presented the ever-sensational with her very special Doing It My Way show at the Theatre, supported by a brilliant big band from local secondary school.

On Sunday we presented Jazz Train Primary School Choir with further brilliant performances from an 8 and a 15 year old showing off their jazz piano skills. We then heard from the consummate duo of & from the beautiful pairing of .ilario & .songs and finished with a spiritual journey on bass and flute from master musician

We met so many people, heard so many stories and shared in a truly joyful celebration of music. 🎉🎷🎶

With huge thanks to so many people and organisations including .fisher.7773 .ilario The Wavendon Foundation .6 everyone who bought a ticket, everyone who performed and everyone who stepped in this year to make sure amazing things still happened without significant funding for our full festival. THANK YOU 🤩 🙏

Jazz FM’s Ruth Fisher will be hosting pianist celebrated pianist David Gordon who’ll be playing alongside the extraordinary Christian Garrick on violin; pianist/singer/guitarist Ilario Ferrari who’ll be debuting a performance alongside the brilliantly voiced Mari Songs; and international virtuoso bass player, tabla master and Indian flute expert Shri Sriram who’ll perform his solo album Singing Bass.

Not enough?! Orphy Robinson will be joined by Ilario Ferrari, Will Davis and Chris Newstead to lead an ensemble choir of absolutely brilliant local primary school pupils who’ll be showing off their singing and improvisation skills learned across the last year as part of our Jazz Train workshops. Their energy and musicality is irrepressibly infectious!

So: smiles, tales, top drawer performances from across a wide range of styles. And all in one location for one special afternoon!

Yesterday we took delivery of our new baby grand Challen piano. 🎹🙈🥳

Gifted to us by a wonderful gentleman in St Albans, we have moved it to the just as wonderful Woodhall Primary School here in Watford. It will live here for a few month and who knows… it might help to inspire a few future Oscar Petersons and Lil Armstrongs! It will also be used as part of our Jazz Train workshops and for some solo jazz piano performances including from Ilario Ferrari.

Eventually it will end up as part of our ongoing jazz shows in Watford but for now its next chapter is all about inspiration and the joy of having a proper piano in sight everyday that can be freely explored and played by curious little people.
