We are saddened to hear of the passing of Flora King following a short illness.

Flora, alongside her husband Bill, has been part of Back to the Forties since the very beginning. Over the years she became a familiar and much-loved presence at the event, always bringing warmth, kindness and a friendly smile. She was, quite simply, a lovely lady to be around, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Our thoughts are with Bill and all of Flora’s family at this difficult time.

It’s been great seeing all your amazing photographs of the Wallingford Back to the Forties weekend 2025. Plans are already well underway for next year’s event and it is shaping up to be a belter!

If you are in re-enactment group and are interested in taking part we’d love to hear from you. We’d particular like to see a US group at the event next year as the town was host to the Americans in the lead up to D-Day.

What a weekend! A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Back to the Forties at Wallingford Station — we hope you all had a fantastic time stepping back into the 1940s with us.

From the music and dancing to the re-enactors, vintage vehicles, trains, and the incredible Hurricane aircraft, it was wonderful to see so many smiles and hear the station alive with wartime spirit once again.

Swing into the 1940s this October!

Join us for a 1940s Swing Dance on Saturday 4th October, 7pm – 11.30pm at Centre 70, Wallingford.

The night kicks off with a lively dance lesson to get everyone moving, followed by music from The Ladybird Swing Dance Band to keep you swinging all evening long.

Bring your own food and drink, dress to impress in your finest vintage style, and get ready to dance the night away!

The dance is part of the Cholsey & Wallingford Railway's Back to the Forties Weekend at Wallingford Station, and is organised in conjunction with Swing Dance Summertown.

Step back in time at Wallingford: Back to the Forties next weekend, Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic weekend of living history, music and atmosphere. Visitors can look forward to appearances by Winston Churchill and Charles de Gaulle, live singers performing the sounds of the 1940s, an extended display by the award-winning Desert Rats, and even for the first time, a Hurricane aircraft on show at Wallingford Station. Alongside these highlights there will be vehicles, Home Front displays, unlimited train rides each day and much more to discover.

Adding to the atmosphere, there’s also a 1940s evening dance just a short walk from the station on Saturday night, running from 7pm until 11.30pm. The evening begins with a dance lesson for those who need a refresher, before the band takes over to play the classics that will keep everyone on their feet.
