WOMAD Festival WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) brings together artists from all over the globe.

WOMAD - The World's Festival

WOMAD stands for the 'World of Music, Arts and Dance'. It gives its name to the internationally established festival bringing together artists from all over the globe. As well as presenting and celebrating the huge array of art forms the planet has to offer, a central aim of WOMAD’s many festivals is to promote cross-cultural awareness and tolerance.

Totó la Momposina (1940-2026)

“I was so sad to hear of the death of Totó La Momposina. She was a giant of the Colombian music scene we have so many wonderful memories of her both in the studio and at many WOMAD festivals around the world. She always lit up the stage with her warmth, musicianship and that extraordinary voice. Her band had a wonderful mix of different folk influences, great rhythms and produced a magical blend. She leaves behind many friends and fans here at Real World and WOMAD.” — Peter Gabriel

Toto La Momposina first performed at WOMAD in 1984 at Ashton Court, returning to play at many more WOMAD events around the world. She recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire and took part in the legendary Real World Recording Week releasing La Candela Viva in 1993 - one of a number of albums that established Toto’s international reputation. The album was restored, remixed and reissued as Tambolero in 2015.

We’re very pleased to welcome Byline Times back to WOMAD for a second year, returning to World of Words with a deep and expansive programme of talks, panels, theatre and public discussion at Neston Park this summer.

Across journalism, literature, politics, activism and performance, Byline Times has consistently asked what independent media can still be in an age of noise, disinformation and shrinking public trust. Their work feels grounded in the belief that conversation still matters… that difficult questions are worth asking collectively and in person.

This year’s programme brings together voices including Zack Polanski, Rosie Holt, Clare Farrell, Clive Lewis MP, Sarah Churchwell, Baroness Chakrabarti, Katherine Stewart, Lord Adebowale and many more, exploring subjects that sit close to contemporary public life; democracy, loneliness, extremism, technology, opposition, political imagination and the social pressures shaping the present moment.

At a time when public life can often feel fragmented and hostile, creating spaces for reflection, disagreement, curiosity and shared attention feels increasingly important. In many ways, it speaks to the same principles that have always sat beneath WOMAD itself… bringing people together across different experiences and perspectives to encounter culture, conversation and one another more openly.

Very excited to see these conversations unfold among the trees at Neston Park this July.

Poetry has always had a home at WOMAD.

This year, as part of our World of Words programme, we’re incredibly excited to welcome the return of the Hip Yak Poetry Shack to our new home at Neston Park… curated by Liv Torc and, for the first time, run in collaboration with the brilliant Hot Poets.

Across four days, the Shack will host a rich programme of spoken word, performance, conversation and late-night absurdity featuring Simon Armitage, Vanessa Kisuule and Diz Undone alongside an incredible lineup including Bohdan Piasecki, Kate Fox, Elvis McGonagall, Francesca Beard, Testament, Jasmine Gardosi, Christian Foley, John McCullough and Edward Tripp, among many others.

Hosted throughout the weekend by Liv Torc, Jonny Fluffypunk and Chris Redmond, Hip Yak has long occupied a unique place within WOMAD… somewhere between cabaret, political meeting point, campfire gathering and after-hours salon. One moment deeply moving, the next completely unhinged.

Alongside headline performances, the return of the Anti Slam, the WOMAD Poetry Slam and family programming from Hot Poets continues a long tradition of creating spaces where audiences don’t just spectate, but participate.

Very excited to see this one come to life among the trees at Neston Park this summer.

Rap as a medium is one of the great cultural expressions of migration and exchange.

This year’s WOMAD programme traces some of those movements… from South London to Mumbai, Belfast to Palestine and beyond. The sounds and lyrics are formed by diaspora, urban life, resistance and memory.

Greentea Peng’s meditative blend of neo-soul, dub and hip hop sits alongside Tamer Nafar’s deeply political storytelling, while artists like Leo Miyagee and Wild Wild Women reshape rap through local histories and contemporary realities.

Different contexts, different voices… one global language held for a while at WOMAD’s new home in Neston Park.

The sound of WOMAD has never really sat still.

These playlists are a way in… a first pass across the terrain of 2026. Music that moves between continents, lineages and generations, held together not by genre but by intent.

There are voices here too… Kofi Stone’s grounded storytelling, ganavya’s devotional approach to sound, Lamisi drawing northern Ghanaian traditions into contemporary form. Each one sits within a wider conversation, one that WOMAD has been holding for decades.

These aren’t just tracks to dip in and out of. They’re part of a longer thread… music as exchange, as memory, as something lived and shared.

We’ve spent time shaping these selections with care. A way to begin listening before we arrive.

A further wave of artists joins the WOMAD 2026 lineup… widening the shape of the weekend and deepening the conversation between sounds, places and traditions.

From Jupiter & Okwess’ Congolese rock energy to the ceremonial pulse of Bénin International Musical, from the songwriting clarity of Kofi Stone and LYR to the future-facing work of ganavya, Mádé Kuti and Lamisi… this is a programme built through movement, lineage and exchange.

Here you will see another thread come into focus… a rich current of UK jazz running through the bill, with artists like Alfa Mist, Emma-Jean Thackray and corto.alto shaping a sound that speaks as much to London and Glasgow as it does to a wider global language.

Across the full lineup, these connections hold. Folk traditions, devotional music, hip hop, electronic experiments and contemporary composition meeting on shared ground… not flattened, but allowed to sit together, in heightened relation.

Last night thirteen British Citizens were illegally intercepted in international waters by the IOF, including one of our own Ben Trowell who has been involved with WOMAD in many ways over the years.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Neil Sparkes, a long time collaborator and much loved member of the WOMAD family.

Neil brought energy, warmth, and an unmistakable presence to the festival over many years from performing with Transglobal Underground and Temple of Sound, to MCing the Siam Tent at Charlton Park where his deep gravely voice became familiar to so many.

Beyond the stage, Neil was a good friend to countless members of the team. His humour and passion for music will stay with us forever and he will be greatly missed.
