This is the official page for the Ulverston Dickensian Christmas Festival, one of the best events of it’s kind in the country. Attracting thousands of people every year to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of a traditional market town in the Dickensian era. Ulverston puts on a tremendous show every year marking the start of the Christmas season and bringing a little Christmas magic to both y

oung and old. The historic market town is full of fantastic shops, great pubs and cafes, cobbled streets and the Dickensian Festival boasts a huge variety of free entertainment, free events for children, fabulous Christmas market stalls with lots of unique gifts and festive food, costume competitions, horse drawn carriages, music, dancing. Bring the family and the kids, stay for a day or the whole weekend, ride the Victorian Helter Skelter, take in the smell of Roast Chestnuts or Hog Roasts and listen to the Brass Bands bringing Christmas cheer to all. If you really want to get into the spirit of the festival, why not come in costume and take part in the grand parade around the town.

Another of our great festivals is looking for support. Organising and running these festivals not only takes a great deal of volunteer time but the costs are ever increasing. It's a fabulous event so if you can give at all please follow the link.

Retro Rendezvous 2026/27 Crowdfunder

A first for us, we're launching a Crowdfunder. Costs for running this festival are relentlessly increasing. We want to pay our performers and other supporters fairly. We fundamentally want to keep the festival free and inclusive for the community. We've been very fortunate in having a number of loyal event sponsors. So no panic, but if you could spare some cash, we would appreciate a little more financial support. The event is non-profit, and the organisers and volunteers are unpaid, so any donations go straight towards the festival. There's more information on our Crowdfunder page, so please click the link, and donate if you can. Thank you.

Do you live locally, are free through the day and fancy wearing your Dickensian costume again?
Pennington school is 150 years old on Friday 27th March and they are having an open day. The Dickensian Festival is supporting this event with some costumes and props but the school would love to have members of the public attend in period dress.

Details in the post below.
