Freelance in live events? Get on our radar. 👀

We're opening up practical LED training sessions at our King's Cross office for freelancers interested in working with Pixl.

You'll get hands-on experience with our portable LED message boards, learn how we configure and operate them on site, and get a better understanding of the Pixl production workflow.

But there's another reason we're doing it.

We're always looking to meet great freelance technicians. If you're looking to broaden your skillset and put yourself forward for future Pixl projects, this is your chance to come in, meet the team and show us what you can do.

Two weeks at Pixl. A lot learned. 🎓

Today was Toni’s last day with us after spending two weeks at Pixl for her work experience, and we’ve loved having her around.

She’s spent time with different parts of the team, getting a proper look at what goes on behind the scenes in live events. From working with our LED team and learning how screens are built, to getting her head around IP addresses, cabling, equipment checks and everything that has to happen before the kit ever makes it out on a job.

One thing that surprised her? Just how much time goes into checking equipment. 😅
Yep, Toni. A lot.

We asked her to sum up the experience:

A supply story worth knowing if you buy, hire or specify AV hardware.

AI data centres have absorbed the memory market, and the trade-off is physical. Micron says producing 100 bits of high-bandwidth memory for AI servers means cutting 300 bits of the conventional DDR used in media servers, processors and LED controllers. J.P. Morgan Global Research projects DRAM prices will rise more than 400% between the start of 2024 and the end of 2026.

For production teams, the practical change is about sequencing rather than panic. Quote validity matters more, spares planning moves earlier, and what a supplier actually holds in the warehouse becomes a real question rather than a courtesy.

One caveat: TrendForce has warned that accelerating capacity expansion could put longer-term pressure on prices, so the current shortage may not run indefinitely.

A scammer can now build a convincing fake conference website in under 3 minutes.

That's not a hypothetical; it's what a brand-protection researcher clocked this month. It lines up with a string of real cases: 36 fraudulent sites impersonating one medical conference's annual meeting, fake festival sites that keep reappearing under new names days after being taken down, and a student who lost her savings to an academic conference that never existed.

Generative AI has collapsed the cost of faking an event. Registration flow, hotel booking, speaker bios, all buildable in minutes, for a fraction of what real production takes.

This week's tech explainer: three new Astera lights joining the Pixl kit — the Titan Tube, Helios Tube, and QuikSpot.

All three share Astera's wireless CRMX platform and AsteraApp control, so our operators run wash, accent, and spot lighting from a single tablet. The Titan Tube delivers 2900 lm and is IP65-rated for outdoor use; the compact Helios Tube runs up to 20 hours on a charge; and the QuikSpot is a 300W-equivalent zoomable spot for keylight and uplighting.

Think a location shoot with no power nearby — Titan Tubes on the back wall, a Helios Tube tucked into a tight corner, and a QuikSpot keying the talent, all battery-powered and rigged in minutes.
