We often think of medieval medicine as crude and painful, but our ancestors were surprisingly clever.

Long before the invention of modern antibiotics, battlefield surgeons used natural remedies to heal wounded soldiers.

One of their most powerful tools was raw honey, which was slathered directly onto sword wounds and arrow punctures.

Modern scientific studies have proven that honey creates a natural barrier and releases hydrogen peroxide, which actively kills bacteria.

Our living history reenactors love showing off these brilliant ancient medical techniques in our immersive camps.

On this anniversary of D-Day, we pause to honor the remarkable courage, sacrifice, and determination of the Allied forces who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Their actions, undertaken in the face of immense danger, helped shape the course of history and safeguard the freedoms enjoyed by generations since. Today, we remember those who served, pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognize the enduring legacy they left behind.

As the years pass, the responsibility to preserve their stories and lessons remains as important as ever. By remembering their service, we ensure that their courage and the values they fought to protect are never forgotten.

Lest we forget.

Wartime often forces inventors to come up with solutions to horrific problems very quickly.

During the wet winter of 1914, thousands of British soldiers in the trenches suffered from trench foot due to standing in cold, muddy water for days.

To combat this, the British military introduced the "Mosley Trench Boot", which used oil-treated leather and extra waterproofing layers to keep the feet dry.

Soldiers were also ordered to change their socks twice a day and rub whale oil onto their feet to keep moisture out.

When you walk through our recreated WWI trenches at the show, you will see exactly what life was like for the soldiers who lived through these conditions.
