Just back home from a great day at Manston Airport in Kent.

Flying 1/4 mile top speed event.

I took my 125cc Vespa Smallframe to see how it would fair on the 1/4 mile with an 1/8 mile run in.

The weather was kind with sunshine but against us with 15 mph head winds.

Still this is a first for us NSA sprinters so we were all keen to see what it was like.

I took a steady 1st run to see how the track felt and it felt really good.

The track is slightly up hill imo but that’s just an observation.

I managed 8 runs in the short 2 1/2 of track time, β€˜first time at this track Woes’ and the NSA Staff worked very hard to get us that track time which i was very grateful for a I was a 1 day entry only, cheers Rob and Dave and crew πŸ™.

So I ended the day with a 10.07 second run at 96 mph into the strong headwind so I was happy with that.

The scooter remained well balanced at speed and the engine is very strong for having such a small displacement (125cc) Big thanks to BFA and FRT πŸ‘πŸ‘

My Event entry was sponsored by KMT PRODUCTS and all my scooters use KMT jets πŸ‘

I am looking forward to the next Event at Manston Airport in September

Here are the results from my day at the Straightliners speed week.

Very happy with breaking B the current records in the 175cc class.

The scooter engine I use in the 175 class was a 125cc and performed faultlessly.
Looking forward to the development of this engine big time πŸ‘πŸ›΅πŸš€.

Next scooter event for me is a BSSO race weekend at Darley moor with my Hornet Racing brothers (yes with corners πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚).

Have a great weekend whatever your up to πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ™πŸ’š

Yesterday I made it to the Straightliners World top speed records at Elvington runway.

It was touch and go if I was going to make it due to one thing or another.

A lot of people helped me get to this years event for which I am always great full.

Special thanks to:

1. Eugenio Ferretti from FRT - www.FERROFRT.it

2. BFA Motori

3. Mark and Roger Taylor from RTS Racing Products

4. Alan Baxendale from KMT Products

5. M4 Karting

An even bigger thanks goes out to Trevor Duckworth who has supported me and my quest to encourage more scooters to come to track. Thanks Mate I really appreciate your help and support πŸ™πŸ’šπŸ™πŸ›΅.

The day started at 05:00 as I pulled out the drive I had my fingers crossed for good weather up north as it was raining hard Gloucestershire.

I arrived at Elvington around 08:30 so nice and early and a few familiar faces were up and about. There was a feeling of calm which I soaked up.

The track was quite damp from the night rain they had so I knew there would be a period of drying off, this just gave me more time to get and brew on, get ready and do some last minute checks on the scooters before taking them to scrutineering.

Signing on was easy at the hands of Helen Greathead and Becci Angelpaws Ellis although i complicated the form filling in πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚( I feel this is now a tradition, sorry ladies 😊😊).

With the track drying it was good to do a pit walk and catch up with friends. Great to see David Rogers ready to do his wheelie thing even with still very broken foot. Manage a quick chat to the legendary youngster Jack Spider-man Taylor Racing and his dad David Taylor and loads more as I did my walk around.

I had entered the same classes as last year, 250cc scooter and 175cc scooter.

I started the day riding in the 175cc class and the new engine did not disappoint.

First sighting run was 101 mph over the mile so I had already broken the record with that run πŸ‘πŸ‘.

With some calculated thoughts back in the pits I headed out again to see if I can improve and improve I did.

I got better and better each run and ended up with 106 mph, with the current set up I didn’t think I was going to get any better so I went back to the pits to take a break and double check the BFA 244 over before taking it out to see if I could beat the 123 mph I did last year.

Unfortunately one of the mega fast bike guys had a big engine failure one the track which put most of the track out of use, the rider was ok thankfully πŸ‘.

So after the Straighlinners crew discussed the Options they put on a 100m average run just to get people back on the track instead of sat in the pits (great idea πŸ‘πŸ‘).

Now the 250 is set up to full throttle at 1 mile so how the scooter was going to perform on the adhoc 100 metre average was anyone’s guess.

First sighting run on the 100m avg was 106.7 mph, i new there was much more in the engine so I was keen to go straight up and do it again. Unfortunately my exhaust end can failed on the way up the track so that was the end of that.

All was not lost as I simply jumped on the other scooter and went back to see what that could do. I managed 100 mph which I was happy with πŸ‘πŸ‘. I went back up for one more run and I decided I would give it a few more beams off the line in first gear, well to my surprise the front end lifted pretty high and made me chuckle, maybe this would do well at the drag strip hmmm πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

The rain finally started to come and the track was closed, to be fair it was the end of the day anyway so no track time was lost.

Big thanks to the Straightliners crew for putting on that quick thinking little sprint it was a great laugh πŸ‘πŸ‘.

What an amazing chilled out and satisfying day. I made new world records and my 2023 records still stand as they were un challenged even by me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

Only took a few photos but here they are.

Have a great bank holiday weekend what ever your doing πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ’šπŸ’š

Cracking day at Smeartharpe’s 1/4 mile sprint track.

Good turn out,

Me
Nige Green Light Sprinter
Shaun Nickells
Steve Rowe
Mike Pacey & Gill Pacey
Wol Gurney

We also had a visit from Russ Shea from Shedtune.
Russ and I have been talking about doing a β€˜thing’ for a while and today was that day. Check it out here soon

https://youtube.com/

The weather was ok to us but we had a few little showers here and there.

Nige was straight into good starts and mid 13’s and held the fastest run most of the day (skills mate). Nige and I had a day working on our sprint scooters the other week and we gave Nige’s some well deserved TLC and we discussed a tyre change to improve his 1/4 mile times, guess it’s working πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.
Nige left slightly earlier so left with the 13.4 as his best 1/4 run. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸš€πŸ›΅

Steve was knocking his times down all day ending in the 14’s which is ace. I know he had set that as a target, guess it’s time for a new target mate πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ›΅πŸš€.

Shaun was certainly getting the laps in. Shaun and I had a chat earlier in the day and he mentioned an mph target of 90mph and he managed that on many runs, nice one mate πŸ‘πŸ‘.

Mike was running his TS1 today which I think was a great decision by Mike, what with the other Lammy riders all knocking on or around the same door it makes for good competition, nice one mike πŸ‘πŸ‘

Gill Pacey has had a difficult season with alsorts of bike issues so seeing her back on track and progressing really well throughout the day was fantastic.
Gill’s TZR 125 was detuned during the investigation and repair of multiple issues on her bike. Smashing a 17.2 second run and a 60 ft of 2.4 has put a big smile on her face, well done mate πŸ˜‚πŸοΈπŸ‘

Wol has done his post but I have to say he was on fire today, it’s been great to see his progression over this Season.
Wol was smashing 1.9 second 60 ft times so his calculated gearing trials have paid off big time πŸ‘πŸ‘.
Absolutely chuffed to bits for Wol who today smashed pb’s on the 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile, running 8.8 seconds on the 1/8 mile and 13.9 seconds on the 1/4 mile. Welcome to 8’s and the 13’s bud I know your not gonna stop there πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ›΅πŸš€.

Ok so I had a mixed morning, I already know I’m low on power atm but something was off in my midrange 😑.
After a few runs I wasn’t where I wanted to be so it was back to the pits to check things over.
Finding a cracked exhaust was a little annoying but it made perfect sense.
During lunch I switched out the exhaust and was keen to get going. First run after lunch I hit a respectable 8.1 second 1/8 mile and 12.9 second 1/4 mile.
Now I was back in the game, I was after the track record which is 12.7 (held by me) I then hit a 12.8 1/4 mile so I was getting closer. I didn’t get there today but ended the day as class leader and full points, so I was a happy chappie πŸ‘πŸ‘.

Big thanks to my youngest who joined me as pit crew, she was ace and looked after everyone πŸ™.

Few weeks off Sprinting now so everyone can focus on getting ready for the Green Light Scooters scooter shoot out in September at the Straighliners 1/8 mile track at Melbourne nr York.

What a triumphant day.

Big thanks to all the NSA crew, my apologies to Rob Britton for making him feel like he was in a time warp by doing back to back runs while searching for the bloody track record πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Cheers ya’ll
