Last Saturday saw the first Cwmtawe 7’s Old Boys Invitation Touch Rugby Tournament and what a day it was!
The day was kicked off by a special curtain raiser between the Ponty Daff’s and the Rack Pack ladies of Glais RFC.
Both sides were piped on to the field through a guard of honour made up of the Ponty Old Boys and the Cherry and Whites. It was a hard fought entertaining game and the Rack Pack were triumphant.
Come 11am the main competition made up of twenty teams from the Swansea Valley and all over South Wales kicked off.
Each team was made up of 12 players all over 35 years of age eager to earn the bragging rights of going home as champions.
Throughout the day all the teams played outstandingly, with skill, a touch of magic and thrilling flair, providing the excitement that Pontardawe rugby fans have missed over the last few years.
Congratulations to Baglan Bombers the eventual winners who beat Skewen Barbarians in the main final and congratulations to Taibach Maulers on their win over Bonymaen Vets in the plate competition.
As organisers our aim was to bring a top quality touch rugby tournament to Pontardawe. We wanted teams to say they enjoyed and that they wanted to come back and we wanted the day to have a family friendly atmosphere.
I’m proud to say we ticked those boxes
A massive thank you to our main sponsor ‘Clearsafe Knotweed’, Approach Roofing Construction and landscaping, Bar 98, Rhos Chippy and Cwmtawe MOT Centre for all their support.
