Ffwff, Cardiff-based Welsh/English bilingual anarcha-feminist zine, is currently collecting material for its next issue. It will be a special edition dedicated to the memory of Elen Mai Wyn-Jones whom some of you know to be one of Birkenstomp's earliest and most passionate supporters. Please add your thoughts, poetry or art (details below).

So... it has come to my attention that BKS is no longer viable as a personal effort. I put on this event in 2011 as a rebuttal to the music industry. At the time I was a gigging musician and I noticed how often I was the token female performer and, for a joke, I decided to turn that on its head, starting an event that boasts a Token Male Performer. It was and still is a joke but I'm proud of what the event has become: a genuinely welcoming space for all to women and gender-q***r people to perform and for all to attend. However, lately I'm finding it more and more difficult to 'get it right' and unfortunately have come up against some criticisms over the last two events. To me, the event has been not much more than a glorified open mic night and it has always been a case of, "Who wants to perform/do a workshop?... You? Awesome, you're on." That has been the extent of it for five years. I don't have the time, energy or contacts to make it much more than this on my own and so, for this reason, I am now opening this out to become a q***r & feminist collective in Cardiff.

If you would like to be a part of this special event and are committed to making it as fun as it is inclusive and welcoming, please get in touch. My only rules are:

1) It has to be fun (sense of humour an absolute must)
2) It has to be positive

So, shall we make the next one a Saturday event? Sunday has always worked for BKS but we reckon it could become a disco at the end of the night if we do it on a Saturday.

THANK YOU to everyone who came to BKS last night. It is always difficult to gauge the situation when organising but I hope you all enjoyed. If it weren't for you musicians, zine makers, craftswomen, poets, drag kings, sound engineers, comperes, volunteers, friends, baristas and bar tenders, there would be NO event. I hope we can do this again sometime soon.

In the meantime, I - Molly - will be teaming up with some local folk to organise some q***r gigs in the local area.

[P.S. photos coming soon]
