What is Balfolk dancing? A welcoming and joyful form of social dancing which is perfect for complete beginners. It brings together beautiful, simple dances from different regions of France, Brittany and wider Europe - some with a partner, and others in friendly circles or flowing chains where everyone joins in.
There are still a few remaining tickets, but they're going fast! Head to the link in our bio/FB comments to grab one whilst you still can!
๐ Swadlincote Town Hall DE11 0AG
๐ Doors open at 6:45pm. A beginner-friendly dance workshop will run from 7-8pm showing the basics to a few staple Balfolk dances, and hopefully something special that the band has brought with them from France!
๐ The 'bal' (French dance) will run from 8-10pm - the band will play and you can join in as many dances as you like. Some are gentle, some are more energetic, you can follow other people's footwork examples, or just dance to the music however you like! Sit out and take a breather when you feel like it, but the main point is that you enjoy yourself and the music!ย
๐ป There will be no bar or hot drinks available, so please bring your own drinks and take any bottles or cans home for recycling. A water station will be set up so bring a bottle with you to fill up throughout the night
๐ซถ We want everyone to have a joyful, comfortable and safe experience at this event. Therefore, please respect others, offer help if you know what you're doing and see someone wanting to try, and don't assume the lead/follow role someone prefers for dancingโask them first. If you have any concerns, raise the issue with the person in question if you feel able to, or mention it to Mel or one of the volunteers. We all want to have fun, so please enjoy yourself and do your best to ensure others have fun too!
๐ Wear flat shoes! No sticky trainers or high heels - something flat with a bit of a slip to the sole works best for Balfolk.
