Nonsuch parkrun Report for Saturday 30th May 2026
It was a glorious sunny warm morning for the last parkrun of the month of May. As I arrived there were volunteers helping with parking, now we have temporary added parking with the warm weather bringing more park runners and walkers along. The volunteers every week give us all a very warm welcome. Thank you as always for your support, as well as this week we had the pleasure of Epsom Oddballs being this month’s pacers. A big shout out goes to Tim Jones 31 minute pacer who was very encouraging and kept the runners going with positivity and motivation. Nonsuch hosts pacers on the last Saturday of each month, a great way to help get that PB you may always have wanted, pacers range from 20 mins – 40mins to complete 5k.
This week 955 park runners and walkers completed the forever course of the flat trailed one and a half laps around Nonsuch and for me I was happy to be park walking with my friend Eirlys to enjoy the event and take it all in. As we walked round together reminiscing on running stories.
My 224th parkrun and my 175th at Nonsuch adding in it being a very special one, as I joined my Nonsuch Parkhopper run crew, a small group of friends I have gained over the years at Nonsuch one of which our very own halfway timer Derick Wilkie, to celebrate my late brother Crispian Acher’s 50th birthday. Cris loved Nonsuch managing to complete it each week in around 21 minutes whilst gaining many friends through it. He was also the Padre for the remembrance parkrun we do every year. We raised our post run coffees to him and as we did a robin came along and sat by us. Its days like these that make parkrun what it really is all about - community, friendship and love amongst the outdoors whilst we complete 5k.
What I love about Nonsuch and all the parkruns is being able to make that choice to run, walk or volunteer which keeps it inclusive. A moment that stayed with me today and kept me smiling was seeing a Dad with his son running and the little lad of prob around 3 or 4 was saying ‘make way I’m coming through’ it was the cutest thing to see and this little lad made all those around him smile and laugh, perhaps he was the youngest parkrunner there this week!
Seeing so many people in the pink vests shows how much support there is for parkrun, without volunteers parkrun wouldn’t happen and so if everyone who takes part could give 3 Saturdays a year to pop on a pink vest and volunteer the rota would always be full. It’s another great way to be a part of Parkrun Day (formerly known as Saturday)
Finally, I take the opportunity to say a massive well done to Darren Wood who completed his 1000th parkrun just down the road in Morden. Darren is the first person in the world to reach 1000 parkrun/walks since Parkrun first began, what an amazing achievement, for me its inspiring to keep coming every week and share the love of parkrun.
